Posted By Brendan Lynch On December 9, 2012 @ 11:00 PM In Android | No Comments

[1]Etsy is an app designed to give Android users a way to access the Etsy online store in a native format. This app is great for those who are already familiar with Etsy’s online store. This app is also great for users who are looking to find unique items sold by different retailers all over the world.

What is it and what does it do

Main Functionality

The primary purpose of this program is to give users access to the already-established online store Etsy.com. It will give you access to all of Etsy’s listed items and sellers.

Pros

  • Shop from over 17 million items
  • Access over 800,000 sellers all over the world
  • Connect with other Etsy members

Cons

  • No access to favorite items
  • No tools for sellers
  • No country-based search

Discussion

[2]Etsy’s service might be familiar to some of you. Etsy.com is an online store that focuses on offering unique and “artsy” items. It is primarily used by artists of all types to promote and monetize their work. As a result, the site can be used to find fantastic items at relatively cheap prices. You can find items that can be used for decorating  recreation, or any other purpose you can think of. This is because Etsy will present you with items like home decor, jewelry, and tons of other accessories.

The actual app will give you access to all 17 million items along with all 800,00 vendors. While the app seems incredibly simple, it’s the content that it give you access to that really makes it worth while. You won’t find a whole lot of fanciness or “features” packed into this app. This is because it is designed to simply display products that may potentially interest you. It will also allow you to communicate with other Etsy members right in the app.

Unfortunately, this app is still incredibly young. As a result, there are a couple features missing from the app that are available online. The biggest perhaps being the lack of seller tools. This app is very clearly designed for the buyers. So if you are a seller on Etsy, then you won’t have much use for this app. Additionally, a major feature that is missing is that you cannot access the items that you have favorited on your web-based Etsy account.

Conclusion and download link

While Etsy’s overall service is really fantastic, this app doesn’t really offer everything the full web-experience does. This app is great for buyers that just want to browse items. However, for buyers and sellers looking to accomplish more than  that, they will have to stick to the web interface. This is undoubtedly due to the fact that the app is incredibly young, which means there is plenty of room for improvement.
