Finding a full featured, portable text editor is hard. Finding one that is free is even tougher! The good news is that RJ TextEd Portable gives you all of this…and more. Not only is this program a full featured text editor, but it also offers Unicode support, syntax highlighting and code folding.
RJ TextEd Portable is a full featured text editor. However, it goes beyond this by offering Unicode support, syntax highlighting and code folding. The program also offers support for editing HTML and CSS. Since it is full featured, it does offer other goodies, like spell checking and auto completion.
If there is one thing that RJ TextEd Portable does not lack, it is features! This program seems to have it all…including some things that I would probably never use (guess it is still good to have it offered at least). Although I can’t cover everything this program can do, I will cover most of its strong points.
First, let me just point out that this program is completely portable. All the testing I did was run right off a USB flash stick. The program is also completely free. Although there is a pro version offered, today we are just going to stick to the free version.
Right off the bat you can tell that this is a full featured text and source editor. Some of the cool features that it comes with include spell check and auto completion. I always love when text editors come with these kinds of features.
The program also has a very nice setup for people who want to edit HTML. Not only can you edit HTML in this program (obviously), but it also comes with a preview feature that allows you to view the HTML you created without having to display it in your browser. Simply click on one of the browsers located at the bottom of the program, and it will simulate what that HTML code would look like in that browser. They only offer three different browsers to try the code in (Firefox, Chrome and IE), but that should be more than enough for you to get the general idea of the code you just created.
Some of the other features this program comes with include CSS editing, Unicode support, syntax highlighting, code folding, a dual pane file commander, and even FTP client to upload your own files. In short, this program can do just about everything you need it to.
There are other good editors out there, but I feel that RJ TextEd Portable is one of the best. At the very least, since it is free and portable, you can download it and give it a try. If you don’t like it, you’re out just a little bit of your time. However, if you like it, you may have just found a new editor to replace the one you are currently using. I highly recommend trying it for anyone who is in the market for a new editor.
