Yet another way to get Windows 7 for free: throw a [house] party

May 16, 2011 10 Email article | Print article

I got an interesting e-mail from a dotTechie today (Emrys). The e-mail was a forward of an e-mail Emrys received from Microsoft encouraging Emrys to “throw a house party” and receive free Windows 7 in return. After I finished pouting about the fact that I was not invited, I looked into it. Interesting to say the least:

I may have at last given back a measure of what you have given to me; your words are too kind. Yet still I feel like the Geek of the Week. :) This was an unexpected boon from MS; I guess because I let the “phone home” part of the RC operate. I’ll never know.

Alas, according to the list of countries given, there’ll be no house parties in this remote part of the world. And we throw such good parties here, too ….

    Mr. Boss

@Harry: I have no idea. So I looked it up for you:

Will I be reimbursed for the money I spend on my Party?

    No.

As a House Party host, you will receive your host party package and free access to your custom Party Page. But as a host or guest, you are responsible for any thing – food, decorations, party favors, etc. — you choose to provide for your fellow partygoers.

As I understand the offer here, a few will be selected to receive Win7 Ultimate and be available to media outlets for the promotion of the new OS. It seems a fair trade to me because I strongly dislike the Vista OS this Vaio came with. I’ve been running 7 in the RC version and really like it, even if it locks up from time to time. To Ashraf, If I get one and you don’t you will be the first one I invite over. My home is open to you anytime you pass through OKC any way. Peace.
