I got an interesting e-mail from a dotTechie today (Emrys). The e-mail was a forward of an e-mail Emrys received from Microsoft encouraging Emrys to “throw a house party” and receive free Windows 7 in return. After I finished pouting about the fact that I was not invited, I looked into it. Interesting to say the least:
So… you throw a party and you get Windows 7 for free? Sounds like a plan.
What makes this throw-a-party-get-Windows-7-free even better is it is open to people living in 12 countries: Australia, Italy, Canada, Japan, Mexico, France, Spain, Germany, USA, Hong Kong, UK, and India.
For people interested, here is a little bit more detailed information:
- Parties will be held between October 22, 2009 – October 29, 2009.
- The available “themes” for the party are “PhotoPalooza”, “Media Mania”, “Settings up with Ease” and “Family Friendly Fun”.
- All hosts will receive:
- One limited Signature Edition Windows 7® Ultimate
- One Deck of Playing Cards with Windows 7® Desktop Design
- One Puzzle with Windows 7® Desktop Design
- One Poster with Windows 7® Desktop Design
- Ten Tote Bags with Windows 7® Desktop Design for hosts and guests
- Also included in USA party packs:
- One package of streamers for decoration
- One package of balloons for decoration

- One package of Windows 7® napkins
- Party packs will be delivered by October 10, 2009.

Thanks Emrys!

I may have at last given back a measure of what you have given to me; your words are too kind. Yet still I feel like the Geek of the Week. :) This was an unexpected boon from MS; I guess because I let the “phone home” part of the RC operate. I’ll never know.
Alas, according to the list of countries given, there’ll be no house parties in this remote part of the world. And we throw such good parties here, too ….
And to host these are free?
@Harry: Like i mean, 100% free, other than food etc for the party, they will send everything else?
@Harry: I have no idea. So I looked it up for you:
@Ashraf: Ok thanks alot :)
@Harry: You are welcome.
As I understand the offer here, a few will be selected to receive Win7 Ultimate and be available to media outlets for the promotion of the new OS. It seems a fair trade to me because I strongly dislike the Vista OS this Vaio came with. I’ve been running 7 in the RC version and really like it, even if it locks up from time to time. To Ashraf, If I get one and you don’t you will be the first one I invite over. My home is open to you anytime you pass through OKC any way. Peace.
really wondering how this party needs to be organized!!! didn’t understand quite a lot although applied for it.
Ashraf,
Will there be samosas at your party?
