The Wall Street Journal¬†is reporting that Google is working on touchscreen-enable Chromebooks, not too dissimilar from what we’ve seen in most Windows 8 hybrid laptops. The report also says that the company is looking to launch these devices as early as the end of the year.

What the report does not say, however, is who is working with Google to manufacture these devices or whether or not they’ll run on an unaltered version of Chrome OS. Early speculation points to a Nexus line of Chromebooks, similar to what Google has done with its Android phones and tablets. Chrome OS is also not designed with touch screens in mind, so tweaks to its interface should be in the pipeline as well if they want to provide a good experience.

Not much else is known at the moment, but stay tuned! This could develop into something very exciting later on in the year.
