ÜberIcon: add simple effects to opening files, folders, and shortcuts in Windows

Sometimes when using Windows I think about the awesome eye candy of Linux and cry (ok… I don’t really cry). You know, Windows has some nice effects and all but at times its so… boring. So keeping with that line-of-thought, ÜberIcon is a simple lightweight program which adds effects to opening files/folders/shortcuts. Here is what I mean:

By default ÜberIcon comes with FlatOut, iBounce, and iZoom effects but you can download plugins to get a handful of others: Blur, Break, Explosion, Fly, Ripple, Roll, Runaway. In the video you witnessed Runaway, FlatOut, iBounce, and iZoom in that order. Take note that you may only use one effect at a time (you can change the effect whenever you want from ÜberIcon’s system tray).

While ÜberIcon is far from solving Windows graphical woes, it does add a few fun effects for you to play around with. You can download ÜberIcon from the following link:

Version Reviewed: v1.0.4

Supported OS: Windows 2000/XP/2003

Officially the developer states “Please note that Windows XP x64 Edition, Windows Vista, as well as alternate shells are not supported.” However ÜberIcon works just fine for me in Win7 32-bit.
