Hello dotTechies,
Before I begin, let me clarify that if you are subscribed to dotTech’s one-email-per-day newsletter managed by Feedburner (the one where you get one email every day and that email lists all the new articles on dotTech), you don’t need to read this article — it doesn’t apply to you, your daily emails are up and running without issues. This article is for those dotTechies are subscribed to dotTech’s one-email-per-article email notifications.
In the past six months or so, dotTech has had an issue with some of our email subscribers falsely marking the emails we send them as spam. I’ve asked time and time again to please *not* mark dotTech emails as spam just because you don’t like or want the emails; you can simply subscribe, every email includes an unsub link at the end. However, people in general are huge jerks when it comes to their inboxes and refuse to listen.
As you may have noticed, since 2-3 days dotTech has not sent out email notifications for new articles posted on dotTech. This is because more people have falsely marked our email as spam and, as a result, my web host has once again disabled dotTech’s emailing capabilities. I am, of course, working with my web host to get this resolved (again) but I have had enough of this bullshit. Not only is this costing me money (I’m being charged $100+ every time this happens) but it is hurting the website by denying regular and loyal readers notifications.
As such, I have made the hard decision to discontinue dotTech’s one-email-per-article notifications. Going forward, dotTech will no longer send one email out for every new article. If you were (are) subscribed to dotTech’s one-email-per-article notifications, I have automatically moved you to dotTech’s one-email-per-day newsletter (managed by MailChimp). This means you will still get articles notifications from dotTech but instead of one email per article, you will get only one email every day. This one email will list all the new articles posted on dotTech.
I apologize to those people this has inconvenienced but, unfortunately, it only takes a handful of jerks to ruin it for everyone.

Well done to Ashraf for keeping it private and not embarassing anyone in public!!
Hey-You did what you had to do-Good!
I love the OMD format- everything in one place to pick and choose from.
Keep up the great work Ashraf
For those that marked this as spam, you’re loss.
good …
I am curious about one thing …
I am receiving the one from feedburner … AND this one …
uh?
is it going to be like this or ???
The Spammers should reimburse you the $100.
Any to identify them?
[@Anak]
Thanks for responding.
I was not alleging that ComCast was causing all the problems, but I wondered if it added to Ashraf’s problem.
I suspect that at present, none of us are getting notifications of update posts by members
Does this have something to do with me getting no e-mails for follow-up comments? I can’t seem to manage subscriptions either, there is no e-mail with the management link. Yes, I’ve checked my junk mail.
[@Roy] I’m sorry for the double emails! Did you happen to register with two email addresses? You can unsubscribe from one of them, whichever you want.
@Everyone asking about comment notification emails: Those have not been disabled by me but until my web host enables our emailing capabilities, they won’t work. They should be up in a day or two.
@Everyone: Thanks for the kind words and support!
[@Rob (Down Under)] Your welcome.
The way I read it, I didn’t think you were blaming Comcast, you were only relating on how they handle frequent emails.
As to Comcast adding to Ashraf’s problem; I would think that, that is a possibility.
Unless it is programed to think that way a program can’t tell the difference if a human user or Comcast sent spam feedback reports.
I could be in the same position with Verizon.
The one Forum I belong to sends me on average 6 to 10 notifications a day because of replies to threads I’m in, so far Verizon hasn’t applied Comcast’s thinking to me.
And, Ashraf has settled the question about dotTech’s notifications in his post #33.
[@Anak] [@Rob (Down Under)] and @Everyone else suggesting ISPs are to blame: As far as I know, ISPs are not the problem. When an ISP marks an email as spam, that does not trigger a ‘spam complaint’. A ‘spam complaint’ is triggered when a user manually marks an email as spam. Those complaints are then sent to the owner of the IP address from which the emails came from, in this case being my web host, who then forwards it on to the relevant party and takes the required action, in this case closing port 25 on dotTech’s server and thus disabling email.
Personally I would rather have individual messages rather then all of these as one message. How can I change back to individual messages again?
Thanks
[@willyneu] You can’t.
[@Ashraf]
I’m very disappointed in these messages being combined as one a day. I found it much easier to see the topic of a message & delete it if is of no interest rather then having to wade through the list of topics to see if there are any items of interest. It has become very confusing. Rather then scroll through the list I am seriously considering discontinuing subscribing to these messages.
I enjoyed receiving these messages in the past but do not have the time to look at the list of topics in their present format. It will be much easier to just delete the message, which I’m sure was not the intent.
willy
There is good and bad in the present format.
I like how the articles are presented as one email, but I would like to see a change in how they react.
I usually scroll down the listing and may see two or three that interest me.
I go back to the first one and click on it and that click takes me to a new tab and the one i want to view, but when I’m finished and close the tab I’m right back to the article instead of back to the list.
So, I either have to scroll down or up to the next one instead of being taken back to the listing which to me would seem more efficient.
Instead of scrolling the whole length of articles, I would see the list and click on the next one.
@Ashraf, I’m not savvy to the ways of WordPress, but is it possible to change the present behavior, like some type of redirect?
By the way, I have been receiving email notifications for the last several days, and I even had a notification to willyneu’s post, but I notice I have to continually check the “Check this box to be notified of follow-up comments via e-mail.” Shouldn’t that be “once and done” as long as you are active/subscribe in/to the responses to the article?
Ashraf, one adjusts to changes in life based on the value they place on the item of interest. So, based on my interest and the value that I get from your informative contributions, I’ll adjust to any changes that you feel are necessary and unsubscribe before directing your emails to spam.
Thanks
