Samsung Galaxy S3 receives it’s first official firmware upgrade via Kies and OTA

Samsung’s flagship smartphone, Samsung Galaxy S III has reportedly received it’s first ever official firmware upgrade. While some reports suggest that the update is available only via Kies, many Galaxy S3 users have reported that the upgrade is available OTA (Over The Air). Being a handset that had been looked upon to be the most anticipated of the year, S3 users hadn’t reported any significant complaints till now.

The changelog of the upgrade reportedly is very short and mentions just ‘improved stability’. It’s worth appreciating Samsung’s desire to keep it’s flagship model running Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.4), tip-top and as stable as possible. The above mentioned update is said to vary in size depending on the user’s configuration. It was also reported that after the first update of about 31 MB, users received a notification for another update of about 9 MB, which also quoted itself to be another ‘stability improvement’.

As reported by Phones Review, the software version changes from I9300XXLEF to I9300XXLF2 after the update. First, the update is currently available to users in UK, and is expected to be rolled out to other regions soon. Though the update was first said to be available only via Samsung Kies, later reports by users suggest that the update is also available over the air.
