drweb might scan online even if file size is larger than 20mb. A person said so in http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=252183  I hope it helps

Also do consider try HashCalc instead of HashTab when you google check

Like Pwnana rightly says HJ-Split is a good "file-splitter cum joiner". I too have used it

Besides I've used an app called File Splitter & Joiner & liked it too. I haven't had the need to "file split & join" in the recent past.

One learning I had was *all apps in this category do not necessarily allow you to do your thing on "any file size". Some operate only if the file size falls between a certain floor & ceiling level. So it is best to choose an app which is not "size constrained". I got a good selection (to shortlist from & select) in cnet

Just sharing one learning which might be useful. Possibly (though not necesssarily) those huge files are video files rather than non-video files. Possibly (though not necessarily) you could have strung several individual videos into a single file. Or it could (though not necessarily) be several audio files strung together into a single audio file.

I remember reading & (I can search out the source pronto) that there are several checksums including of course md5. The checksums suggested to be used for movie files etc is SHA512 & some other formats rather than md5      

Also do consider using HashCalc because it tells you checksums for a given file across 13 checksum formats simultaneously. It also tells you checksum for  several different parameters including text string & hex string & even eDonkey & eMule. You could then google search using the appropriate checksum whether md5 or something else.

I say all this because checksumming a large file takes a longer time & more cpu cycles too. Therefore its better if you get an answer in 13 formats simultaneously rather than in just one. Checksumming 700mb just took me 1 minute.

I found this checksum app (Hash Calc) & a few others the Prince Charming of checksum apps.

I can't think of any uploaders, but I do have some suggestions.

While not nearly as effective as VirusTotal (hard to be 41 AVs!), ESET has an online scanner, which I think lets you choose specific files and folders. It's at least a second opinion. Norton, BitDefender, Panda and McAfee also have online scanners. Kapersky has one but it's down at the moment...

Hashtab is good, I use it. And Universal Extractor, while great, would not work for this purpose X_X. If there was a virus it would get out when UE extracted it.

Finally, I dont know if it would affect the detection, but you can use HJ-Split to split any file into smaller pieces. You can also use any archiver like 7zip to split it. But my concern is that the splitter might split the virus and make it undetectable.

If anyone wants I could write a tutorial on file splitting.

As everybody knows there are lots of good file scanner web services out there, such as VIRUSTOTAL, NOVIRUSTHANKS or JOTTI'S MALWARE SCANNER, aimed at keeping your PC virus-free providing more reliable data than one single scanner installed on your PC can usually do.

In fact, with these web services,  files are scanned using in one go the best 20-25 independent and antivirus engines available on the market  nowadays (AVG Technologies, Kaspersky Lab, McAfee, Emsi Software, AVIRA, AVAST and so on) giving users a detailed result from each antivirus engine at the end of the scansion.

The problem is that these web services have a size limit (usually 20 MB) beyond which is not possible to scan any file.

So the question is: are there any online scanners out there, similar to VIRUSTOTAL, capable of scanning files larger than 20 MB?

If not, do you know any trick to bypass this bloody limit in order to use the above mentioned file scanner web services for files larger than 20 MB?

I did a swift search on the web about this issue but didn't find much and I'm now a little bit confused about it...LOL!!

The only suggestion worth mentioning I found is to HASH the FILE you want to scan, using an online tool called "HashTab" (???), and then copy and paste the MD5 HASH found into a GOOGLE SEARCH to see if anything pops up in the search result.

Then, if Google found nothing, you can see whether or not the MD5 HASH previously found come from a reputable source by using another free online tool called "Team Cymru SHA1/MD5 MHR Lookup v1.0" that can be found at the following link:
