Ok, I promise this is the last. But I just checked out Calibre e-book manager (http://calibre-ebook.com/). It's also free. According to the website: "calibre supports the conversion of many input formats to many output formats. It can convert every input format in the following list, to every output format.

Input Formats: CBZ, CBR, CBC, CHM, EPUB, FB2, HTML, LIT, LRF, MOBI, ODT, PDF, PRC**, PDB, PML, RB, RTF, TCR, TXT

Output Formats: EPUB, FB2, OEB, LIT, LRF, MOBI, PDB, PML, RB, PDF, TCR, TXT

Might also be worth checking out.

And now I'm done. I hope somewhere in this mess of posts you can find something that works. Good luck!

Ok, one last thing I looked into: a program called CUPS-PDF (http://www.physik.uni-wuerzburg.de/~vrbehr/cups-pdf/welcome.shtml) - " ... a backbone program that lets you create PDF files from any program that can print."

It's a bit complicated but it can be installed on Windows if you are prepared to do some fiddling about. It's a tar.gz file, so you would have to extract the files with something like 7 Zip. Then you can follow the instructions here: http://devrandom.blogsite.org/articles/cups-pdf/

It has Windows instructions as well.

"convert HTML Help file (CHM) to PDF"

Again, might be worth a look.

chmProcessor: Word/HTML to CHM converter:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/chmprocessor/

http://chmprocessor.sourceforge.net/

"It's a tool to generate a compiled help (CHM) and Java Help files from MS Word or HTML files. It splits the document on different topics pages by the "titles" sections. It can too generate a web site, a PDF and a XPS with the help content."

"chmProcessor is a tool that allows generating a help project and a compiled HTML help (CHM file) from a MS Word or HTML file. If the file is a word document, the section titles must use the “Title 1”, “Title 2”, etc styles that offers by default Word. If the file is a HTML file, the titles must use the <H1>, <H2>, etc. tags.

"From this original file, each section of the document is split to different HTML files. Each of these files will be a topic page at the help. From the original document, you can generate:

    * A Microsoft Help Workshop project.
* A compiled HTML help (CHM file).
* A web site like this.
* An Adobe PDF file.
* A Microsoft XPS file.
* A Java Help JAR file.

This any use?

I don't know if these are what you need, but they might be worth a look – at the very least they might give you some ideas to go on.

Or else you could download a trial version of one of the paid programs and use that if it is just a one-off job.

Hope this helps.
