<p>I don't know your OS, but if you want the OLD Windows Explorer that came with 3.11 to 98, here's a link to winfile.exe. Simple, drag and drop, 244KB. Works in Windows XP as a stand-alone app.</p>
<p>If this doesn't work for you, then FreeCommander is a terrific option, as the other posters have stated.</p>

<hr />
<p>I found a link to a giveaway of an old version of Directory Opus (Version 6.2) on Raymond&#39;s forum that you might want to check out. The links are still active, so if you want to give the old version a whirl, you might want to check it out. The download link is on the forum page below:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.raymond.cc/forum/freebies/15287-directory-opus-6-2-a.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.raymond.cc/forum/freebies/15287-directory-opus-6-2-a.html</a></p>
<p>Registration link: <a href="http://www.gpsoft.com.au/DScripts/vnureg.asp?type=hp" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.gpsoft.com.au/DScripts/vnureg.asp?type=hp</a></p>
<p>Hope this helps. <img title="Smile" src="/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-smile.gif" alt="Smile" /></p>

<p>Makes it sound like you're a developer trying to sell your software.</p>
<p>I like shelless explorer personally, but it's not free. I'm gonna also give Ultra Explorer a try.</p>

<p>It's not free but I've found it to be one of the best supported products ever! <img src='http://dottech.org/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt='<img src="http://dottech.org/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-smile.gif" title="Smile" alt="Smile" />' class='wp-smiley' /> We have a VERY active user forum at <a href="http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/index.php" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/index.php</a> and the author participates often.</p>
<p> I used xplorer2 lite before I found XY (and still do on rare occasion) but now have XY active all the time I'm on my PC...I now maintain a blog with updates to XY (which occur almost daily!) at <a href="http://xyplorer.blogspot.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://xyplorer.blogspot.com</a> but I'm not getting anything financially from XY...I actually have donated via PayPal each year to the author, Don Lessau as I appreciate his efforts.</p>

<description><![CDATA[<p>A great tip is to make explorer work as a separate process in the system, so that crashes can be controlled.</p>
<p>This tip work also for many alternative explorers which use the same libraries.</p>
<p>An easy way to do so is by using anvir tweak which is free.</p>

<description><![CDATA[<p>xplorer2 is nice, though I dont know how it compares with other explorers. I tried, but eventually got rid of it because explorer replacements dont work with W7's libraries. It opens the windows explorer, THEN jumps to xplorer when you choose a folder inside a library. Very annoying. But this shouldn't be a problem on Vista and lower.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.zabkat.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.zabkat.com/</a><br />
Its not free, but it does have a free lite version.</p>

<p>I used many including Qdir, TotalCommander (Not free), FreeCommander, AccelMan, ShelLessExplorer(not free) and now i'm stable with UltraExplorer (<a href="http://www.mustangpeak.net/subdomains/ultraexplorer/index.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.mustangpeak.net/subdomains/ultraexplorer/index.html</a>) and its totally free.</p>
<p>It can import plug-ins of TotalCommander as well.</p>
<p>Basically, it has so many features of FreeCommander, but it is much stabler and more close to Windows Explorer.</p>
<p>best regards</p>
<p>Farrukh</p>

<p>TotalCommander is the choice of most in a lot of circles, it&#39;s not FREE but you may use it for a very long time...10 + years and still counting.&#160; <img title="Laugh" src="/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif" alt="Laugh" /></p>
<p>ghilser.com is the home site as well as most of the heavy hitters like nonags.com, majorgeeks.com</p>
<p>Directory Opus is just a PITA i find it too intrusive on a system and to think they want over $70.00 for this overpriced filemanager, it makes Windows look very good.</p>
<p>Take a hard look at TotalCommander</p>
