It came to my attention today, in my attempt to install a program, I had an option of Extract All or Run.

I got Confused because I was not sure of the difference and I thought just maybe they have different functions that controls how the program installs.

Can anyone shed some light on this for my GCS?

OOH OOH I know what this is!

OK, if it's just a regular old installer that has no other files then you don't need to extract-just run. However you may want to grab the other files from the ZIP files (such as license files).
If there are other files like DLLs and other non-text files (you can tell by the icon) then extract it.

Oh, the site that was :(

Thank you very much, I have noted it in the GCS.

And now I can stop banging my head on the wall. Opps I digress.

Clicking "Run" will first extract only the installer (usually setup.exe or something similar) to a temp folder, and run it from the temp folder. So, the best choice is to always Extract All, so you can archive the installer/any related files for later use.

Morning Al

Oh my goodness, I had not notice that until you mentioned. I always look at others people titles etc, but never mine.

@Adrian

@LocGuru(you did not answer my question re may I call you that?)

I hear what you are saying.

In the particular instance I am referring to jv16 PowerTools

I created a folder in C and named it

downloaded program to it

Extracted all

I always ended up with 2 folders inside the created folder with the installer and the lic file.Confused

So when I people stated to copy the lic file to the installer file, imagine myConfusedCryEmbarassedFrown = frustration.

So I gave up and then I got some much needed help from people on here who are smarter and have more patience than I do

BTW re the info on Ext or run that you all provided has been copied to the infamous GCS.LaughLaughLaugh

Stop making fun of my GCS, I need it so that I do not have to come back and search for the responses again AND, when the situation comes up in other situations, I can appear to be techie smart.SurprisedLaughLaugh

Actually I applaude the idea… I just hope that you will make GCS Vol. 1 available to us when it comes out of press!

Hmmm… I think a light-bulb just lit up in my head for an idea for a custom avatar for Ebony.

I'm not saying what it is yet, but if it works out, you'll understand it in an instant.

I won't start playing with the idea until after I get home from the east coast. So it'll be a couple days before I start on it and then a few more days to see if I can work something out that actually looks good.

Then there will also be the issue of whether or not Ebony wants to use it.

Either way tho, I get to have a new project to play with and learn a little more about image editing. So it's all good from my point of view. Smile
