Looks like you found a solution to your problem, but for future reference, Wondershare DVD Ripper does convert to .vob files. I believe the free DVDSmith software does as well (http://www.dvdsmith.com/).

I just got back from vacation for a week (hence the lack of time in my previous posts) and have finally gotten to try these programs. My internet is working fine now (my dad called our internet provider and they fixed it) so downloads are no longer a problem. Anyway, most of the suggestions work on VOB files (if only WinX outputted to VOB) and I don't have enough memory or time to convert the 3 hour movie. What I finally ended up doing was going to http://www.subtitlesource.org and searching for my movie and downloading the subtitles. It was very easy. For those of you that this subtitle site doesn't have your movie, I suggest ripping to VOB in the first place. Thanks to Locutus and phoenix for their suggestions.

PS. I know you don't want to install another prog, but these might be worth checking out.

The only other things I can come up with aside from Locutus's suggestion are SubRip: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Subrip

DVDSubEdit: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVDSubEdit

DVD SUBRipper: http://www.divx-digest.com/sof.....ipper.html

VobSub: http://www.weethet.nl/english/.....vobsub.php

This link has some other suggestions: http://www.digital-digest.com/.....ry-23.html

There is also a prog called ImTOO DVD Subtitle Ripper, however it's not freeware. But you can check it out at: http://www.imtoo.com/dvd-subti.....ipper.html

Ditto this one – Xilisoft DVD Subtitle Ripper: http://www.xilisoft.com/dvd-su.....ipper.html

Some may only work on avi files (not sure). If so, you can convert them with FormatFactory or iWisoft.

Let us know how you go, ok.

I tried that a few hours ago, but it is way too confusing for me (shocker ) It has a complicated interface with nine tabs. Also, it mostly works on stuff ripped from tv shows (MythTV). I tried importing the file and, not messing with any options, the output was 0 bytes and empty. I'm pretty sure I did it wrong. I'm sorry if this post is difficult to understand, I'm in a rush.

I used WinX DVD Ripper Platinum and did a 1:1 DVD Copy to get a *.mpeg file. When I watch this file in VLC media player, I can turn on subtitles. How do I extract the subtitles into a *.srt file? I'd rather not download anything more because my internet isn't working correctly. Is there a way to extract these subtitles using VLC or one of the many Video Converters that dotTech has offered as a giveaway? Thanks in advance.
