Please stay away from most of the free cleanup/speedup offers. Most are crap.

Before I recommend anything, can you please explain more about what is happening with your laptop. You say it is dying regularly. A 2 yr old laptop should still be in good running order, so it may be something else that is causing your problem.

Hi Mags,

Yeah, as I mentioned - at my age being a cynic is automatic!

What I was getting at there, is whether there is a program out there worth using - free or paid. I have for years kept up three programs:
MSE, Spybot and Glary.

I am plagued by the internet pipe from Australia which is literally the slowest on the planet and still the most expensive. (like Point5 meg d/loads) which doesn't help - and a system that literally takes minutes to load Chrome, while Firefox BASIC is quick. Site timeouts are very common.

But the reaction of the system itself is getting slower and slower. In the old days I would simply "live with it" and reload the 5,000 bits in a full reinstall .

So, I'm ready to try anything else first! But which one?

My 3 regulars do a basic job of cleaning things, but I need a REAL tune-up.

I also run VBOX with Ubuntu in it and same thing. Even it runs like a dog - BUT as mentioned I have such a bad Net connection, I can't be sure of anything.

Cheers!

Nobody believes me so I keep speedtest traces - here is a regular one:

If we know more details, then maybe we can help sort it out. i.e. when did it start, is it just sluggish, have you downloaded and installed anything, do you get the BSOD, etc.

Hi people,

I am old - therefore a cynic - but I am constantly tempted by these "free" offers to cleanup/speed up my PC.

I DO understand that they are basically a come-on pitch (this one below NEARLY got me - still can't see the catch)

BUT my 2 y.o. Samsung Laptop R780 is dying regularly.

It came with its own W7 copy built-in and it is now a couple of years old and due for a "tune-up/Spring clean".

What do I do/use here, people?

Cheers!

Himagain

BTW: here is that deal I mentioned.....
