Mozy is one I forgot about. I'll check them out.

The big thing I'm trying to avoid as much as possible is long upload and download times. I've got a small internet access package with slow speed at home (I'm out in the country, DSL isn't an option), so I've got to drive 17 miles one way to get to town, then sit at Starbucks while I upload or download.

Starbucks wouldn't be that bad a place to sit if it weren't for two things. First, they limit access time to two hours. And second, they have these "out of this world" double chocolate brownies that I'm getting addicted to! I'm gonna get fat! :-)

The speed is why I started a thread asking about P2P file transfers. In that thread Ozzie came up with a whole bunch of options like Mozy that I'm still checking out. So I'll add Mozy to my list.

I've gotten sidetracked tho by a friend that asked me to make a website for his restaurant. So I'm spending most of my time working on that for now.

Thank you for the suggestion Karen.

Instead of an FTP service, have you thought about using an online backup service?

Not sure if it would work, but it appears that Mozy at least doesn't have any per file limit. You can get 2 GB of storage free and you download the Mozy software. It appears to be very configurable - you can specify the exact folders or files to backup. You can also configure the speed (i.e., percentage of your cpu and percentage of your bandwidth).

So maybe if you use Mozy, you could specify your 1GB video file to backup and then "restore" it to a different computer (not sure if it would work that way or not). Of course, to stay under the 2GB limit you would need to delete the file before doing another one.

Just another option to look into (I don't remember who was originally looking to FTP large files) ...

Cnet really like this one as a client: http://download.cnet.com/filezilla/3000-2160_4-10308966.html
