UPDATE: I have decided to just stick to Anvir Task Manger's built-in temp monitor. Hmonitor doesn't support my mobo/hd sadly, and SpeedFan takes up much more resources than Anvir. Thanks everyone.

As for the motherboard, graphics card and anything else with a sensor HWMonitor Pro (I know a pay for software) works very nice and has way more sensors than the free version.  Not only that but you can set it to collect data from the computer in an Excel spreadsheet.  If you suspect a program running at a certain time may be causing the issue this might be the only way to find it. However I see you tested it and it was not what you needed.

 

Also, have you tried Hmonitor at http://www.hmonitor.com/ which is also shareware with a trial.

 

And SpeedFan at http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php which is freeware.

 

Those are the main ones I tested last year when I had a major project I was working on.  Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think running that program all the time will take up a lot of resources and contribute to heating. That seems like a great program though for monitoring multiple drives and servers. 

 

I found that Anvir Task Manager monitors the disk temperature, and although it has a bunch of other extras that I don't need (which unfortunately means more resources used - and thus more heat), I think that's as close as I'll get to a disk temp monitor that auto-starts and minimizes to the tray. I guess I could try that one day. But you see, it's really the laptop's fan that's the problem. It is over a year old now, but only recently its fan kinda crapped out and now it doesn't cool as well as it use to. I tried disassembling it to clean the fan, but it turns out I have to take apart the whole she-bang because of the way it was designed. I did it halfway, but after seeing all the wires and the motherboard, I got scared and gave up. (Word of advice: Get a laptop with a fan cover on the back, otherwise when the fan gets dirty, you're screwed - and just spraying it w/compressed air from the outside won't do much)

 

@Ashraf: HWMonitor did work, but there's no option to make it auto-startup and minimize to the tray (even in the paid version - I tried). I need it in the tray all the time so whoever uses it knows when to let the laptop rest.
