I need a replacement for windows media player…….no itunes though…..i have done some research but all the alternatives im finding are just music and movie players. i love WMP's features (Rip, burn, media library, etc.) but i cant find another media player that is just as good or better than it.
*preferably free!
Oh, I know one… let's see… ugh hold up.

I use VLC : http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
From videolan.org:
"It plays everything!"The media player that fills all your needs. It can handle DVDs, (S)VCDs, Audio CDs, web streams, TV cards and much more.
You don't need to keep track of a dozen codec packs you need to have installed. VLC has all codecs built-in. It comes with support for nearly all codec there is.
And what is more it can even play back the file or media if it is damaged! Missing or broken pieces are no stop to VLC, it plays all the video and audio information that's still intact.

It's V 2.61 Build 570 FINAL. I have no idea what that means, but well, it's free.

OfflineVLC is "just" a media player. It has an impressive set of adjustments on both video and audio, including speed, pitch, EQ, color balance, brightness, zoom. Plays everything I throw at it. It locks up once in a while but then I have the problem with other programs….
AIMP looks very good (thanks for point it out, Joji!), and another one that's very interesting is Media Monkey. I hope to try both of these soon. Media Monkey sounds like a full-blown media manager that includes a player. I'm hoping it will handle offline storage of music and video files and let me tell it I changed locations for entire folders of files. Web page is impressive, I hope the software is also. They have a limited free version and a $20 Gold version, but the freebie does a LOT.
Magix offers a free program called "Muffin Music Finder Base". They also offer a photo manager program for free. Look under Downloads on Magix.com. Haven't tried Muffin yet, but it also sounds very interesting:
"With Mufin MusicFinder Base you can finally enjoy your
music wherever you go and discover new music on a daily basis at the
same time! Bask in a comfort revolution that injects life into your
music archive and makes tedious searching and managing of folders a
thing of the past. Mufin MusicFinder Base is intelligent and innovative.
An MP3 Manager that makes you wonder how you could ever have done
without it." (from the Magix site) It also normalizes volumes, lets you transfer to/from MP3 players, much more.
Anyone else have experience with any of these?

I have heard alot about VLC but is it a media manager also…..or just a music/video player…
VLC is not “just” a media player. It's more like everything else but just a player. It can rip DVDs, CDs, convert video and audio files,..you can read about “ Things you didn’t know VLC media player can do” and after reading this post it will be clear that VLC is not just a media player.Cheers
Thanks everyone but i think i actually found what i wanted….and id actually like to suggest it to everyone too. In one word this programis "WOW" this has very similar features to WMP and has a very sleek interface that makes it look cool!….you really should try it out!…it can even access amazon with it!

Isnt the free version just a trial?
Did you download it and check it out? It shouldn't be a trial…

Their site doesn't says much about free and paid versions, but it says on softpedia page:
"Note: Free for non-commercial use."
So, its full program, free for personal use.
