What software is the best freeware to use to prnt a 5x7 or 8x10 from a large JPG?
Canon used to have a good one. Freeware hopefully.

It's built into Windows. Open up the folder with the picture you want to print, click Print on that top bar, and select the size at the right. It'll say 5x7 (2), but you don't need 2. You can also change the paper size at the top.

But I need to be able to crop just the center of it. Thanks.
Walmart and SAMs CLub has the software I want but it's built into their photo machine,

You could try using Paint to crop the image (if I'm understanding you correctly).

I would be remiss without a followup on this saga.
i downloaded and installed a new program for me. I hadn't heard of it before.
It is the holy grail for me working with my Pictues and printing them as I desire.
Sheets of wallet sized, sharpened jpgs of mine, 5x7 's, anything I want.
I would pay $29 for it but it's free. Runs on my XP laptop and Lexmark WiFi printer just fine.

oh, I forgot to tell you the name: Photoscape -- just Google it.

Thanks for the scoop. Photoscape looks like something I have been looking for but got a bunch of other programs that were more of pain to use and I gave up on them. I am going to give this one a spin.

Looks like it's a pretty well respected piece of software. The reviews here and here rate it Excellent. I'm going to download it and try it out.
