How did they fail?  Did you install a whole bunch together?

I think I had the same problem once, but with only one update.   I probably turned off the warnings and then the problem was completely solved when I next carried out a 'Safe re-Install'.

I think to turn off the warnings, go Control Panel >> Action Center >> Change Action Center settings, then there is an option to turn off Security Messages / Windows Update.

Hope this works for you. 

I could very well download htem from the Microsoft site, but these are a whole bunch and I don't want too :P

All Windows updates WILL, and some AV(s) updates MAY need to be redownloaded.  With the Windows updates, I run SP1 first, then I selectively download them a month's-worth at a time (based on issue date) starting with the oldest.  This stops Windows getting confused with a large number of updates installed out-of-sequence.

The installation was rather long and boring but wasn't too much of a headache. Things went well until Windows Update. It seems like all my security updates have failed... so I will have to look into that a bit more and see whats up with that ;)

Understood.  I have to admit that I've thought of a clean install from time to time.  When you have done it, post how you got on, with your tips! 

i was initially thinking about going that route, but then i decided that i would be better off with a clean install b/c my computer came with a lot of bloatware, and i also installed a bunch of crap too :P

besides what is the use of WinX Video Converter when i have Freemake Video Converter :D

Also, anyone have any tips for the whole clean install of W7 over WV.

[btw. I am planning on using the Windows Easy Transfer program to store a bunch of stuff on my Ext. HDD, or is there something better. I have a bunch of movies, pictures, and important documents that I cannot lose. I have a 750 GB portable HD, as well a 1 TB ext. HD [but it's about halfway full]]

If your Vista installation is good, why do a clean install?  An upgrade install will keep your "movies, pictures, and important documents that I (you) cannot lose" intact.  Also most of your installed apps. (GOATD etc.) should still work.

For insurance, take the usual precautions: disc/partition image(s), registry and browser(s) backups.

It worked for me in November 2009 and if it works for you, it will save you a bunch of problems.  If it doesn't, you can re-instate Vista and chase those new apps. If you have survived Vista this long, you deserve Win 7.  I reckon Vista drove folks to Linux!

Oh, maybe I had (or chose) to re-install printers, 'cos of drivers otherwise it was no sweat. 

I've been thinking for a while, and I think I will probably upgrade my Windows Vista desktop, to Windows 7. I figure I'll buy a upgrade disc and then do a custom install, which should make my computer good as new :)

The problem I have been facing is free  alternatives to the lovely GAOTD programs I got.

I don't care for many, but I do want something similar to AltDesk [virtual desktop thingy]. Does anyone have any recommendations?
