OfflineWould anyone know of good software to recover some picture and video files from a flash card used in my video camera? preferably free, I suppose if I have to pay for it that is okay too but I need to know if it really works first. I've tried Recuva which worked fine for the pictures but the videos that it recovered will not play at all even with VLC player which is what I use most of the time.
I thought I had transferred the files to my computer but I guess not, when I checked the folder they weren't there and I had already deleted them from the flash card in the camera.
Thanks for any help,
Stan
OfflineHave you tried PhotoRec? It isn't very user-friendly but is one of the best file recovery software available; and its freeware. See http://dottech.org/freeware-reviews/10756/.
OfflineWell, I tried to include a image of what I am getting but I don't know how to do it however PhotoRec starts and then stops, a window pops up saying: "PhotoRec has stopped working", I have used the "check online for a solution…" but that doesn't help.
I am using the Windows 7 64bit version, perhaps I should try the 32bit version.
Any ideas?
Thanks for any help,
Stan
OfflineI uninstalled the 6.13 PhotoRec version and installed the Beta PhotoRec 6.14, it worked like a charm restoring more photos than other restorers I've tried while on this venture, but even though the movies have all shown up they still do not play.
The interface of PhotoRec is a little intimidating but it isn't that bad or I wouldn't have been able to do it, the photos can go where you choose but I went with the default folder which is part of the program; recup_dir.1 so its easy to find.
I might not be able to recover the movie file but I think the program is a keeper.
Thanks Ashraf!

OfflineThank you for the reply, I think this is one of the programs I tried but after finding what looked like the video (and photo) files the program wanted money before it would perform the recovery so I deleted the program.
If a program like this can work I would rather it would show me it will recover working files before demanding payment, a full working program with a limited number of days as an example, one program I tried would only recover so many Mb's but not enough for any one of the movie files.
If I am confusing this with one of the other programs I tried please let me know and I will give it a try too.

OfflineThanks Ashraf! those bastards…
…And, the good news is I found the movie file on my desktop, when I moved the files from the video cam disk to a folder I'd made for them I thought I carried them all over to the folder but instead they went to empty spots between other icons, my desktop is a cluttered mess alright, I've been working some with the program "Fences" featured here a while back so I'd been picking out files that are going into certain fences, the files from the video cam disk filled in some of those available spots, I have two 28inch screens so there is a lot of room for "stuff".
Lesson learned, make sure files all transfer properly and PhotoRec is good program.

OfflineThank you for the reply, I believe Remo: http://www.remosoftware.com/data-recovery is one of the programs I tried, it sounds quite familiar anyway, in the process some with a trial would seem to recover the file but it would be corrupt or some programs claimed to have recovered the file but it would be necessary to buy the program to see anything larger than a picture or word file.
Fortunately I did find the movie file and all is well.
