OfflineHi, In Microsoft Paint( as of XP), when you open any .jpg file and then save, it changes the file size but not the resolution and only slightly reduces the image quality. So basically, I need a program or script that will take jpg files in a directory, open them in Microsoft Paint and resave them. Thanks.
OfflineAh, no, you see, if you open a JPEG file from your phone or camera in Paint then save it, Paint removes some image quality which you would only see if you zoom in a couple times. But since it does this all over the image, the size of the JPEG is reduced from 2 megabytes to maybe 500 kilobytes, without any noticeable difference, so when you have thousands of pictures, the file space saved is quite substantial.
OfflineThat is what I'm saying. You are looking to compress JPG files (lower their file size) without loss of quality. This can be done with almost any image editor -- JPG files have the built-in capability to reduce their 'quality' and thus reduce size. The good thing is reducing JPG 'quality' typically doesn't lower image quality as seen by the naked eye.
I suggest looking at Fileminimizer Pictures to compress images instead of using Paint. See http://www.balesio.com/fileminimizerpictures/eng/index.php.
