OfflineWell its not MUCH better, but I found WinXP 32 Home on Newegg for $110 (about 70.32 pounds). Frankly, I am disappointed by this. Newegg has always had great prices, but this seems ridiculous. However, it is also an OEM, so its meant to be used by private builders for profit which may explain the price. Also, if you're planning on switching to linux permanently, why dont you just install it now and use Wine to run your windows apps?

OfflineWhat we really need to know is why you want the 64bit winXP. Is there anything you really want to do with 64 that cant be done with 32? If its more memory, Micro already released a patch allowing 32 bitters to use more than 4gb of memory (not per process, but total). From what I heard, 64 version is a little buggy, and doesnt support nearly as much as 32 XP. I would really suggest you just get 32, especially if its temporary. It would probably be cheaper.
I paid £226 for WinXp Professional" ahem!!! :-) Seriously mate I want Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 for my own reasons, and yes I have heard all the stories abt it,some from Ashraf himself but it does not change the fact I wish to obtain a legal copy of it for myself for my own reasons.Any help in obtaining a copy would be greatly appreciated.

Hi black raven. I don't know if these are any good – there are so many versions of Nero (ultimate, reloaded, lite, essentials, etc etc) that it's a bit confusing. Anyway, check out these links and see if there's anything that catches your eye. They're probably useless, but what the heck, hey:
http://nero-essentials.software.informer.com/8.1/
http://www.productquest.net/nero-8-1-essentials.html (not free, but selling for six bucks)
http://www.freewarefree.net/cd-and-dvd-tools/1874/nero-7-premium-711100/ (for version 7, and not sure if it's freeware or not)
Anyway, with limited time at the moment, that's all I can come up with. Maybe someone else has some spark of inspiration.
Good luck!
PS. I'll keep my eyes open while I travel the information superhighway, and if I see something appropriate, I'll post, ok.

You picked up the lingo well! I, too, have a soft spot in my heart for the Scots … good luck with Nero!
OfflineHi Ruchir 9897!
I am still a votary for XP SP2 non-.NET version but because of the following reasons:-
1) Not just because it covers the most apps (even though it is true)
2) Not just because it is 32bit (even though it is true)
3) Not because I do not do much gaming (even though it is true)
4) Not because SP2 has higher mkt share than SP1 or SP3 (even though it is true)
3) But because out of the 90% collective OS mkt share of all Windows WinXP itself is about 61%, Vista is 15.6% & Win7 barely 9% (even though it is true)
4) The adoption rate of XP in its first 12 months was far better than Vista which in turn was far better than Win7. Win 7 was 40% poorer than Vista!
5) Win OS adoption rates have been successively worsening & the developer has to turn things around.
6) You are 100% right Win7 is far better on security than XP SP2. My gut also tells me that Win7 is better than Vista because if improvements. But I figure WinXP SP2 wouldn't be doing well if it lagged behind in the security department by a huge degree
Vista & Win7 have a newer genre of runtime component (it is .NET) in which computer resources i.e. cpu usage, RAM & Virtual Memory are managed by the OS rather than by the source code written by the developer of the app.It is an interesting initiative which it is incorrect to pre-judge. There however are very few .NET apps. My guess is that for every 100 non-.Net apps there are perhaps barely 5,maybe even less .Net apps!
All I am saying is that obviously as of now Microsoft still is a long way off from improving the new runtime component. The proof of that pudding is in the low mkt shares aka low userbase & a declining adoption rate.
Till then I remain a votary of WinXP SP2 non.NET
Ramesh
Offlineruchir9897 & readers of my post
I am sorry the current mkt share of Vista is around 23% & not 15.6%.
15.6% was the exit mkt share in its first 12 months.
23% was its recent mkt share.
However my conclusions continue to be borne by the stats. You can confirm that by applying the stats to crosscheck the veracity of my statement
