@ Ebony: If you ever see a giveaway for ABBYY FineReader, grab it. IMHO, it is the best OCR and PDF conversion prog going (well, it would want to be at $399 a pop). I was fortunate enough to be given the Version 10 Professional Edition by a friend who had no use for it. It is superb. Matter of fact, I'm doing a conversion now. I doubt it will be given away any time soon, but should an older version ever be up for grabs or some site be giving it away as a promo, snap it up.

Generally, just before the semester starts, I do a big hunt for any study-related progs that might be useful. And in the course of that searching, I tend to stumble over lots of other things as well. And if they look good – and legit – I post them here.

@P_R "I do a big hunt for any …. progs that might be useful."

Here is what I found during a BIG HUNT.LaughLaugh

I did a search on dot tech site, did not find anything so I am going out on a limb and posting about it.

Digital Patrol from NicaTech Software is an AntiSpyware software that protects your PC from spywares and other malcious softwares. Digital Patrol’s Lifetime updates and 1 year support license normally costs around $49.95, it seems for a limited time NicaTech Software is giving away Lifetime updates license for free.

You can find more info on the site. I did not want to make a long post.

Does anyone have an opinion?

@ Ebony: Never heard of it before. I might be overly cautious, but I tend to favour the tried and true when it comes to AV products. But thanks for the heads-up …

You might want to post it separately under the Freebies section.

I see the other program. I was too focused on the other one. I will search and give followup if warranted. (If it is worth talking about)

How do you all find all these sites? Lotsa good stuff.

Thanks for the heads up. You Rock.

@ Freewarelite: Personally, I don't subscribe to any other site but dotTech. It has something for everyone, I reckon.

"Probably they subscribe to so many tech sites"

I subscribe to:

Cogizio (no, really?)

dotTech (also a "no, really?" site)

Lifehacker

Gizmodo (more for gadgets)

MakeUseOf (while a lot of their posts are just junk, every few is gold)

HowTo Geek (I don't know everything!  This site is great for people who need clear steps but are comfortable with a computer and sometimes Regedit)

AskVG (Windows tips & tricks… also useful!)

Raymond.CC (useful for the occasional software review or bug fix.)

A lot of these (Lifehacker, MakeUseOf, AskVG, and Raymond.CC) I came across so many times while looking for bug fixes that I said, "ahh I'll just add them to my RSS reader… what's one more feed?"

Gizmodo and How-to Geek I got from Lifehacker.

dotTech I got from… well read the "how I found dotTech" thread.
I literally founded Cogizio.

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled post.

Oh, the site that was :(

I subscribe to some WordPress.com tech blogs, dotTech obviously, Raymond.cc (for the freebie info), and Gizmo's Freeware.

Yep I sub to Cogizio, a while back, even though I cannot pronounce it and I go there from time to time. Wink

Thanks for the other suggestions. I like trolling, but I like to troll carefully. And if you say the sites are OK, wellllll enough said.Wink

@freeware light
Thanks for the help. I have made a note of all of the suggestions.
