I’ve never even heard of BumpTop before but found an article about it on The Windows Club.

From the article, which is at: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/3d-desktop-for-windows-7

“BumpTop is a fun, intuitive 3D desktop
that keeps you organized and makes you more productive. Like a real
desk, but better.

BumpTop replaces
your desktop with a visual environment unlike any you’ve used. It has a
cool  futuristic look.”

The developer says: “For the next week, we’re keeping BumpTop Free available for download at bumptop.com/download to give
BumpTop fans one last chance to grab a copy.”

So I downloaded it, just to try it out. If you think you might want to try it too, be aware that it will disappear forever May 7 2010.

If you have it or have used it in the past, I’d apreciate it if you could post your opinion of it. I won’t be installing it for a couple days at least and would love to know ahead of time if it’s going to cause problems once it’s installed.

It was pretty cool, but it really slowed down my old laptop.

Oh, the site that was :(

Hopefully it won’t slow my new laptop down too much.

I am a little concerned about what it’ll actually do tho, because I’ve got a LOT of stuff on my desktop. I’m worried that if I end up unistalling it I’ll have to spend a bunch of time getting my desktop back to what it’s like now.

I wonder what Google wants with BumpTop. Maybe looking for their skills for Android?

I was wondering that too. But since I don’t really know what BumpTop does, yet, I didn’t make the Android connection.

I remember seeing a video a while back about a program that lets you stack items on your desktop like cards and move them around, even placing them on the walls around your desk. I’m guessing BumpTop will be something like that.

I could see google wanting that kind of feature for the Android.

Yeah, saw this as well. Not my cup of tea. Was a bit of an eyesore for me. Fences is a better option for the desktop, IMHO. But it’s worth noting that this is to get the free version only, and not the more features-rich pro version (both of which will be no longer available, but I see that they are offering support for the pro version). But I wouldn’t panic too much if you need it or want it, you’ll still be able to download it from heaps of places anyway.

Ooooooooooooooooo….. Phoenix, you’re here…

I was just about
to pass you in post count. But only by 1 post, so I could see myself at
the top of the list once.

Then I was going to go to bed and
wait for you to pass me and get things back to how they’re supposed to
be on the post list. Phoenix_Rising at the top. (since Karen deserted
us)

Ain’t it just my luck? LOL!!! LaughLaughLaugh

Oh well, lol, maybe another day. LOL!!!  LaughLaughWink

Locutus: That was BumpTop? Cool. Guess I will install it and play around with it a little.

I use Fences now and I do like it a lot. But sometimes a little change is a good thing.

And I can always go back to fences anytime.

@ Wheezer: Go for it, mate. I will happily tag along behind you!

Besides, you know my take on the whole post-count thing … Wink

Phoenix_Rising: Yeah, I know what you mean. It’s really not a big deal for me either, somehow passing you in the count would feel like I’d messed up the seniority on the forum somehow.

Besides, I don’t want to be top poster. Then everybody would be trying to catch me! Lol  Laugh

@ Wheezer: Don’t sweat it. It’s good to shake the world order from time to time. My only hope is that when I’m tailing you that you tie up the flap at the back of your dotTech cult robe … there are some things a gal just doesn’t want to see!

Hahahahahahaha!!!!  See what I mean? Phoenix paused, I got ahead by one post, and the “Top Posters” list at the bottom won’t update. LOL!

Phoenix is just supposed to be the top of the list! Hahahaha…

No, I’m just following you around tonight…  Wink

Ok, I’m gonna try something. I’ll be back in a few minutes.

Edited to add: My idea didn’t work. Oh well.

It’s 2:30am here now and I’ve got junk I have to do in the morning, so I’m gonna head to bed in a couple minutes.

You all have a good night, or day. Talk with ya later.  :-)

Here’s a chart I made:

You’ll notice that while P_R is the newest, he (she?) also has the most posts of a non-admin.  So Wheezer, it’s OK to take over pheonix_rising.

Actually, I noticed that when I first beat Ashraf.  It takes a few minutes for the cache to clear.

Locutus: But it -feels- like Phoenix has been around longer. But I see your point.

If the darn list at the bottom would update, this whole conversation wouldn’t be taking place. Lol. Smile

But to heck with it. It’s bedtime, and that’s WAY more important!
