Eh it may not go through… I am working out the kinks with YL Computing =).

As a side note, you want a custom rank instead of “Geek”? Maybe “Queen of Freebies”? :D

Recently i downloaded and installed WinUtilities v9.38 from GOTD but while checking YL computing website today they haven’t published v9.38 as their released version. Why is that???? Does Give Away of the Day website offer software’s that are beta test softwares not released ????

WinUtilities version history:

WinUtilities version 9.41

* Enhanced password security for Document Protector
* Document Protector upgraded to v1.2
* Improved File Undelete module

WinUtilities version 9.4

* Added a new Document Protector module
* Supports to protect documents, pictures, video files or any other files with a security password
* Added 15 new plug-ins for History Cleaner module
* Minor bugs fixed

WinUtilities version 9.37

* Fixed spelling problems
* Optimized automatic updates feature
* Optimized skin component for WinUtilities Pro

WinUtilities version 9.36

* Minor bugs fixed

I just ran the setup of WinUtilities v9.4 and now it’s version has changed from 9.38 to 9.4 but still registered to GOTD. I didn’t entered the license information provided with v 9.4. Weird :???:

Sandeep – very astute observation about whether they’ve quietly done a beta upon us via 9.38:frown:

I wish it was made a cyber law that all apps follow a standard version numbering convention e.g. 9.3.8 wherein 9 represents a major version upgrade (aka an entirely new genre of functionality gets added), 3 represents a minor version upgrade (aka one functionality offers yet another minor sub-feature) & 8 represents a distribution version getting added (for example a zipped version of the exe, portable version or a new language translation of gui, helpfile etc etc)

GOTD & indeed all giveaways would do well to get a unique version number covering both minor version & distribution version because they neither get free support nor are freely upgradeable.The versioning could even use alphanumeric instead of just numeric.This would even help the developer.It also won’t add to the developer’s cost because in any case all giveaways & non-giveaways in any case nag remind you to update – that is a fixed cost anyway!:wink:

As an incurable optimist I hope Ashraf succeeds in bringing this app to http://www.dottech.org because with his incisive mind & inimitable manner he could easily resolve the matter for us.

On the sunny side a version upgrade with continued GOTD licensing may not necessarily be bad – here is why! Every app has a mix & match proportion of free versus paid in order to generate extended trial & therefore adoption. Extending the free mantra from 9.38 to 9.40 may mean a continued effort to generate more trials. With so much at stake they would in any case avoid a tumble on account of any coding negligence.Perhaps 9.38 was a unique versioning number given to the giveaway version:smile:

Thanks Ozzie.Ashraf I hope you succeed tomorrow.I haven’t yet downloaded.I am waiting for the present in both meanings of the word “present”:lol:

@ Sandeep

This is typical behaviour of most programs.

Try to do a deeper uninstall with Revo Unistaller and then reinstall the softpedia version. Most probably, it will work.

@ Ramesh & Jumbi: Thanks a lot for your information.

Most of the time while installing a new version of software i don’t use Revo Uninstaller as some program itself uninstall the older program version prior to updating and some just overwrite and updates their older version.

I just DL and installed WinUtilities, I am getting a screen that states it is not free. I can use for 31 days.

That is not what it is indicated at the top of the page.

I do not want a bunch of programs clogging my computer that has no usefulness after a few days. Some software is not used everyday.

If I missed something can someone PM me. Any help is appreciated.

I like this site.

Hi ebony! Smile Welcome to dottech family. Scroll down to the bottom of this page & you’d notice that Ashraf our webmaster has already welcomed you – see you are currently browsing this topic & you are online.

You can uninstall  WinUtilities. Please only use its own uninstaller.

After that please go to the top left hand corner of this web page & notice the screwdriver & spanner crossed with each other in light green. Read it. Click “Get it now for free”.

Ashraf has got us WinUtilities Pro 9.41 free with permanent free updates too. Enjoy!

You might like to consider keeping your email a secret. All dottechies keep it a secret, dear friend. That is only to be safe on internet. So if you want to contact any dottechie via email the way to do it is to click upon “Send PM” meaning Send Private Mail.
