Hi Ashraf and all member,
Softpedia givingaway this:
iCare Format Recovery v1.0
Recover files from formatted hard drive, formatted card, formatted USB drives
Special edition from Softpedia, time-limited offer valid until April 22, 2010!
@ Ashraf: Yeah, seems so. On the Softpedia web page, where they have published the serial number, it says: "The license works only on the special edition available for download on Softpedia."
I'm wondering what the "special edition" features – or, more to the point, doesn't feature. Is it just a stripped down version of the full program?
This is the URL the developer gave me when asking me to post about this promotion: http://www.formatted-recovery.com/.
It's also being offered here:
I've never used the program… the combination of the Easeus Partition and Easeus ToDo backup programs work so well on my box that I just copy partitions or store images on an external drive. I think I'll download it, though, in case I need to help somebody else. I learned about the AskVG site from someone here, but I can't remember her name.
PS to phoenix_rising. That is the grooviest yin-yang I've ever seen.

Full version then, it seems. Might be worth a download – if it can do what it claims to do. Thanks Ashraf!
@ benhenry: It's pretty trippy, isn't it! Kudos to whomever designed it.
Very timely. A friend of mine has just "lost" all her precious photos by pressing the wrong key during a copy process.
So, being the good guy hero type, I offered to try and get them back for her – only to be told she had re-formatted the disk and started taking pics again.
Woe and misery.! Immediately instructed a halt on new pics until we could finish the recovery exercise.
Oh, folley, folley. (Credits to Stanley Unwin).
First attempt using Wondershare Photo Recovery went well, until I tried saving those discovered – my Registration key no longer worked.
2nd. attempt using iCare Data Recovery met a similar fate.! Something strange here with lost keys, will have to investigate and hope it is not systemic and affecting other installed programs.
3rd. try – persistent chap aren't I – using RECUVA. SUCCESS HOORAY.
To tell the truth, I just could not face the embarrassment of failure after making such a bold offer and building up her hopes.
Still, a few pics were irretievably lost – they had been overwritten with new ones (any idea how these might be found?) – but at least my image is still pristine.
Will now get this latest freebie and put it in my arsenal of tools one hopes never to have the need for – just like insurance – but there in case of emergencies like the one above described.
Also, will test iCare Format Recovery on the same memory card to compare results.
P.S – Thanks to Aang for the heads up. LOL
Have done initial testing of iCare Format Recovery
(iFC) on the same memory card, as mentioned above, and am pleased to advise results compare very well.
Restoration using Recuva returned exactly same file sizes as original, iFC copies were slightly larger. Whether this is of concern I cannot say as the test files were only a few k to begin with.
It should be noted however, that a similar increase in file sizes was indicated by Wondershare Photo Recovery, so there does not seem to be anything untoward here.
Will post again any updates to the above.
I DL'd it too based on your review. Maybe I can be a savior for someone ELSE though.
I have one question. I notice there are not menus. Does that come up after you run the recovery phase and give you options to perform?
I guess I could go read up on it but talking to you is always more fun.
All right, I give up. I think I'm finally convinced that I should go ahead and download it. Just in case I ever need it.
Think I'll just save the download on my external hard drive tho and not install it unless I end up needing it. (does that make sense or would I somehow be shooting myself in the foot if I did that)

You make a good point, what I noticed is that it gives you the choice of what to recover, hds, usb etc, BUT what if it is the external that needs recovery.
Which leads me to this question, is it possible to put it on external and internal???
Good points, both need to be considered.
I've been bragging about this new computer with all the memory, guess it's time to use some of it and install the program, even if I hopefully never use it.
