@ AlanR: Hi. Thanks. And no, studies weren't the reason for the absence. Interesting about the beta version. Thanks for the heads-up. I see, though, that the download on CHIP.de is for a 60-day demo only and that it costs $30 to buy. As much as I love the prog, it's too much for me unfortunately. So I guess that means sticking with the older version for now.

If you had an older version, you'll need to uninstall that first.
If you open jv16 PowerTools, click 'Help' and then 'Licence Information'. Try 'Install new licence' and find where the licence is (it will be in the folder that was downloaded). Or try 'Autofind a new licence'.
If that doesn't work, uninstall it and try downloading it again. Follow the instructions at softgeeek.blogspot. As well as downloading it from CHIP.de, he says to download the original installer from Macecraft. Why?, I don't know.
edit, after a little thought, I see no advantage to downloading the installer from Macecraft. Also jelson@Raymond.cc has said the installers are exactly the same.

@ Ebony: I clicked on the "Zum download" button. If you clicked on the right one, you should have gotten a setup installer (jv16pt191_setup_hb) and the license.xbin file in a zipped download. Did you get those?
@ Amnesia: I didn't uninstall the older version and haven't had this problem. I wonder why it's worked for some and not for others. Curious.

Yes I had both those files. I have tried 4+ times to no avail.
However I did read somewhere that Ccleaner does somewhat the same thing. I have that so I am going to pass on this one.
I do appreciate your help. You are on it when it comes to this sort of thing. 
@amnesia I tried to follow the instruction on the sight you recommended,
got the same 30 day trial message. It was still go info and now I have learned of another site.

Did you go 'Help', 'Licence Information', 'Install new licence'. Then go to the powertools folder that you downloaded, and then 'license.xbin'?
I really don't know what else to suggest.

@ Ebony: Sorry to hear that it didn't work out. Even sorrier that it seems to be the things I post about are the ones which give you such problems … such as the Data Crow saga. Maybe one day I can find something for you that actually installs without a hitch! It will be my new goal!

@ Ebony: Phew! Good to hear! And yes, I'll check out the mini review. Pity about jv16 though – it's a terrific prog. I, too, have CCleaner – and it's also very good – but jv16 goes a bit further and has more functionality. But them's the breaks, I guess. Better luck next time.
