Hi! Smile

Firefox browser is known to leak memory heavily & Memory Fox add on was created to address that issue. For a spell Memory Fox had disappeared but it is back again. However it still continues to be an experimental add on.

Hi everyone! I was using the AFOM – Memory Recovery & Retention FF add-on (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11922) created by the same development team as Memory Fox. I was really happy with it – I often have many tabs open at the one time, and that is a huge strain on FF and a huge drain on system resources. But I thought I'd give Memory Fox a go the other day and see if it worked as well or better. But AFOM came up the clear winner. Both significantly lowered FF memory CPU use, but AFOM hands down reduced my memory use to a negible level. Right now I have seven tabs open and I am only using 22,000k. With Memory Fox it was up around the 100,000 level. Both are good, but IMHO, the former is better.

I'll have to try AFOM.  I looked at the add-on descriptions and it seems that Memory Fox tries to reduce memory for other programs as well, but AFOM is FF for Windows only.

@ Karen: Thanks for looking into it so thoroughly. AFOM is definitely my choice of the two.

@Karen: I swear when I first got MemoryFox and when I first wrote about it, MemoryFox was for FF only o_O. I know this because I was very particular about this point seeing as the developer had other add-ons that did memory cleaning for other programs also which I did not want. Developer must have changed it with the latest release.

Per the add-on description on the Mozilla site:

Memory Fox:

Attempting memory recovery, retention to the following:

1) Firefox

2) Songbird

3) iTunes

4) TweetDeck

5) Most Global Processes .i.e Chrome Opera Flock

AFOM:

AFOM recovers Memory Leakage within a running instance of the Firefox
browser application.

But both were created by the same developer.  My guess is that AFOM was the original Memory Fox and was renamed when Memory Fox was expanded.

I am suffering from memory loss, then, because I swear it was the exact opposite a few months ago.

Thanks for the commendation. I am using Memory Fox but, like you, tend to have loads of tabs open simultaneously – sometimes crashing FF in the process..Cry

Will give AFOM a try and see if that improves matters.

Developer Comments – extracts

AFOM is as an experimental beta
Memory Recovery add-on.

Note 3: If you have multiple User Profiles then AFOM will work ONLY on
the profile which AFOM was installed on.

Note: ( Windows Only )
