OfflineUltimate Defrag is now shareware (commercialware) and cost $29.95 (according to Disktrix site) / US$39.95 (according to Softpedia). [I am not so sure about the price but...] Here is how you can get it for free!
Well, to be honest, not the latest version though. You can get it for free by getting the last freeware version (aka freeware edition). For your info, the last freeware version is V1.72 while the latest(shareware) version is V2.0.0.55.
Alright, there might be a bit of difference, I would say but hey, you are getting this for free and it still works great so no complaints…hehe..
Alright, let us get to the serious matter. You can download Ultimate Defrag (last freeware version, aka Freeware Edition) from any one of these links:
http://download.cnet.com/Ultim…..82157.html
http://majorgeeks.com/Ultimate…..d5965.html
http://www.softpedia.com/progD…..54424.html ( be sure to click on this link – "External Mirror 2 – 1.72 FREE" instead of "External Mirror 1 [OTHER]" )
http://www.disktrix.com/UDFree.htm (not recommended as you need to provide your email address)
There is no need for serial code or license key. Simply download and install.
Enjoy.
(Note: Disktrix is giving away V1.72 as freeware so as to promote their products and hence, tempt users to upgrade to the latest version. Marketing strategy, I would say. But this free version works well and has no nags or time limit. You can use it freely with "no strings attached".)
OfflineDefragging when it was 20 meg FAT Harddrives was important. Now I believe it's a waste of time unless you want blinking lights on a screen to prove you were there.
I had a tech who did that every time he went on a call to an office. The secretary was impressed with the lights on her screen and of course she got nothing done for hours. I finally fired him. He went on in life to be a body masseuse. "He rubbed me the wrong way."
OfflineI disagree. Defragging will free up disk space (not a HUGE amount, but still)and will also make your hard drive run faster, since it doesn't have to move the read-head around to all the little fragments of files. It is still a good idea to defrag once in a while.
