Easy… 5!
Are you sure??????? I get 31 !!!!!!!!
Ha! You're all wrong! You know it's 10! (3^2+1^2)
i.e. [(11 = 1 + 1 = 2)+ (17 = 1 + 7 = 8)] and hence, 2 + 8 = (10 = 1 + 0 = 1)
Now, what could be simpler than that?

Sorry to disappoint you all BUT… according to my 8 yr.old's maths teacher, the answer is 1..!
i.e. [(11 = 1 + 1 = 2)+ (17 = 1 + 7 = 8)] and hence, 2 + 8 = (10 = 1 + 0 = 1)
Now, what could be simpler than that?
………trying to figure out how to win the lottery……………in every state…..on the same day!
