Windows' disk defragmentation tool is an old workhorse that recent
upgrades haven't really improved. In fact, more than a few users were
disappointed that the strangely mesmerizing block-by-block progress
display had vanished from newer versions. You can get the old view back
and much more with O&O Defrag, an automatic utility that can not
only improve your system's performance by defragmenting data but also
keep it running smoothly by preventing data fragmentation before it
happens as it chugs on unnoticed in the background.

Thankyou PCbasics, good spot.  Downloaded, installed and used, very good.  The extra functions on the Pro edition would be nice, but not worth full price.  Still an excellent freebie!

bravo PCBasics!

version is 14 and not an older one!

Go get it fast, cause it will be offered just for 1  day!

(unless this new edition will be free generally available from tomorrow…don't know yet. In that case, O&O will be a strong competitor to the rest of freeware defragglers)

Never heard of o&o before.  Looks like a nice find.

How does it compare to Auslogics Disk Defrag?

Auslogics has similar features as O&O, also fast, can do automatic defrags, and can (if you want), defrage multiple disks at same time saving you time.  Also Auslogics has always been free, at least since i could remember.

Auslogics is my first choice too, mainly because of ease of use and lack of time from my side.

Otherwise, there are much better programs, most of which are commercial, but also most of them are more complicated.

O&O is one of them, imagine that the normal version has 8 different defrag methods and many other options for example to defrag upon boot and before loading windows, etc…

Now this free version is limited but for people who have tried the previous pro versions, they know.

O&O so far for me and for numerous programs that I have tried, has somehow a “german quality” feeling :-)

For the differences between this free and their pro edition, check:

The site says it's only free for 24 hrs but it's still free.

I knew someone who had O&O Pro and swore he could get 99% defrag with it but reading the differences jumbi mentioned, Auslogics is probably better.
