AVG Free Edition 2011

Good protection from a reputable vendor. What I especially like about this software is that it stays updated and scans in the background. Little user intervention is needed.

I know many people use AVG but for me it misses way too much malware especially new ones, it might catch them but way latter on. I would say Avast would be my choice, they have made some serious improvements and just feels more professional. But to each his own right. I would say Avast updates slow my comp down more than I like.

I've also heard good things about Microsoft Security Essentials, but haven't tried it.
