Freebie Hotspot Shield promises to encrypt all of your data and packets
while you're in a public location, shielding you from any danger. The
program is simplicity itself: Just install it and run it.

*Looks very useful if you use alot of public wifiCool

Hotspot Shield has been around for a while now, however it generally gets mixed user reactions. Be warned that it does place ads on web pages, and can block a person's use of the product if they do not participate in its ad programs and surveys, etc.

From its terms and conditions ( “AnchorFree may deliver third-party advertisements (“Advertisements”) within the content of any web page accessed. Advertisements may be injected into the top of the page, inserted directly into the page content, or even displayed to overlay the page. You hereby acknowledge and consent that AnchorFree may alter the content of any web page accessed for the purpose of displaying Advertisements. Additionally from time to time, AnchorFree may prevent any user's access to the product or continued use thereof until such user has successfully participated in applicable advertising programs, surveys, or other activities that collect and monetize users' personal information.”

Always worth having a look at the fine print beforehand, me thinks. As always, let the buyer beware.

PS. There are many, many of these progs around. One open-source option is Free Hide IP (…..eip/files/). You can read about it at:…..-explorer/…..e-hide-ip/

Please note that I haven't tried this prog, so I can't vouch for how good (or not good) it is. But I always look for open-source progs first.

Yeah, I agree with P_R: Hotspot Shield is a very controversial program. In fact, I would say anything that claims to protect your privacy, yet has so many questions about it, should be avoided.
