If you play PC games then you have probably heard of Valve. They are the creators of many great games along with Steam, a way of purchasing and downloading PC games. Yesterday (I think), Steam announced that they were offering the game Alien Swarm for free. To get this game for free you need Steam, get it at http://store.steampowered.com, and at least 2GB of hard drive space. The link to the game site is: http://store.steampowered.com/app/630/. Since this is a Valve product, it includes the source SDK.

What type of game is it?
Alien Swarm is a game and Source SDK release from a group of talented designers at Valve who were hired from the Mod community. Available free of charge, the game thrusts players into an epic bug hunt featuring a unique blend of co-op play and squad-level tactics. With your friends, form a squad of four distinct IAF Marine classes. Plan your attack using an unlockable arsenal of weapons with countless loadout configurations against a wide variety of aliens. Blaze your way through an overrun, off-world colony, eradicating the alien infestation in environments ranging from the icy planet's surface, to a subterranean lava-flooded mining facility. Along with the game get the complete code base for Alien Swarm that features updates to the Source engine as well as the SDK. Alien Swarm adds 3rd person camera, depth of field, improved dynamic shadows and a wide variety of gameplay additions to the Source engine.
Since I haven't played it yet, I can't say how good it is. It looks good though.
OfflineThanks Casey
I found this info also.
"Alien Swarm is a classic arcade-style shoot-em-up. It can be played as a single player game but the most users will choose to operate in multi-player teams of up to four players."
YouTube also has a video of it, pretty cool graphics and sound. Neat if you are into the fight games.

Ashraf, please make a day where 4 of us can have a "Alien Swarm Party".
That will be exciting!
Look around you; a lot of us are interested about this "free game", so why not have a day where we all do co-op to trash some aliens?
I wonder if anyone realized, but doesn't this kind of look like "Left 4 Dead"?
@Lascannon
That sounds like fun. We should make a dotTech Steam group that is open to all dotTechies. I just checked and both dotTech and dotTechies are available as names for groups. BTW, isn't L4D first person while this game is third person? I see the resemblance though
I'm going to throw this idea out there: What if dotTech did a partnership with Valve or some other company to give away a free game? That would be awesome to us gamers out here.
