OfflineI was looking for games again today and happened across one of the flight sims I found and lost back when this thread was started. This isn't the dogfight sim, but it looks like a good one anyway. I plan to download it next time I go to town, because it's a 172MB download. That'll take hours to download at home, but only minutes at Starbucks.
Anyway, it's called "FlightGear" and you can get info about it and view a demo at:

A really fun game to play is called Freespace 2. While not technically free (costs $5.99 on GoG) there is an open source project that will install over the retail install and bring the graphics into the 21st century, as well as add new ships, campaigns, etc . . .
If 6 buck is still too much for you then you might want to look into a Freespace 2 SCP TC (total conversion), which means it's standalone, you don't need to install it over a retain version. The best one IMHO is called Babylon Project. Google it. Play it. Freespace 2 has been rated consistently as the best Space Combat Sim EVER.
It's the only one I've played (besides SW Battlefront 2), but I can see why people like it so much, it's great! One of my favourite games EVER!
So, yeah, people. Buy it. It's worth more than $6, even without the source code project update. With the update they should be charging $40 for it.
(No, I don't work for GoG, I just love this game)
Download Diner Dash 2 and more for Free:

Why don't you use a download manager?!

I played it before. It needs a whole f***ing lot of processing power, and hanged up my machine immediately.

This thread has the potential to be a darn good one, if I can help make it that way, great!
SEEMS to be a good idea – at the moment, BUT, when thread gets to 8, 15, 100+ pages, trying to find that gem you saw a while back (but didn't get round to it) will be a tedious exercise.
Don't even bother to do a search on dotTech, this I have found does not return particularly great results, as you are most likely to get more frustrated.
Whilst I appreciate the good intention behind this idea, and some of the links / games already mentioned, I do not believe this to be the best avenue for discourse. Sorry for this dampener.
It might be more usefull to have a databased repository of comments, including links and cross-references etc. to make it a truly searchable and more user-friendly source of information. Such places may already exist (the one mentioned oft on GAOTD by Whiterabbit comes to mind) and it is to these that I suggest this topic might best be limited to making references thereto.
In that way, this thread might be kept to a more manageable handfull of pages only.
OfflineThere are lots of abandonware games sites. Another good, but not free site with tons of old games is Good Old Games, or GOG. Most games are super cheap, though.
Freespace 2, for example, probably the best space combat sim ever, only costs $6 on there, for example.
OfflineTwo more free games:
RoR – Rigs of Rods – A physics-based vehicle simulator.
UFO: Alien Defense – Based on that great old game that had everyone checking their hallways for aliens every night. Probably the best game EVER from that time era. (the original, I mean) This remake has updated graphics, but very similar gameplay.
