<---- Goes to the hotdog stand.

I was venting steam, mostly because I really wanted to use this app; it is a great app otherwise (and yes Google does have many great ideas, no doubt). However, I really think they should have at least added an option to password protect it. I don't think every app should have this, but something as sensitive as email information should have some form of protection. This is our email data; we shouldn't have to take extra measures (or cpu resources) just to protect it.

You probably still don't agree with me; that's fine. Maybe it's because your phone is very personal to you, and you rarely let anyone else touch it in the first place. It's a different story for me. At times during the day, there is always someone who has access to my phone, which is fine nonetheless, but you now can see why I am so concerned about this.

Google makes some of the best apps around. I don't see why you are pissed because they didn't add the ability to password lock an app. If every app had the native ability to password lock, that would be a nightmare. That is why there are apps that specialize in the field.

I came across that, thanks. Nevertheless, it still really pisses me off how Google can't code their apps more properly. I really regret ever touching this app now. Google = no privacy.

Ok so I did some research and the only solution to this is an App Locker. Great, more resources used up and less battery life. You know, sometimes I really despise Google for things like this (and many other "tiny" annoyances in chrome). I mean, they are great and very innovative, but sometimes they really need to step back and fix simple things such as this.

You're right I just tried it out, and it doesn't take long to sync. It only stores the cache of emails you open, so it is accessible offline. I hope clearing the cache with 3rd party tools clears this also, because that cache could really add up.

Edit: Is there a way to password protect this app, or the gmail account? Anyone who has access to the phone can just open the app and then voila. That seems very insecure to me.

However, as far as I know, it won't download and cache *all* your e-mails. I believe as you go through older e-mails, it loads the e-mails in batch, on demand.

Don't quote me on that, though.

But does that mean my Android device will download all of my emails? So if I had 1GB worth of mail, and I sync it with my gmail app on my device, will it actually download all 1GB of my mails?

(yea, this is all new to me, so what might seem obvious isn't obvious to me)

I've been planning that bit for a while.

..also, I heard that Google was planning to make a whole line, so that a new phone will be out makes total sense.

I'd rather not get a Nexus One--why get a year old technology when you can wait just a year longer? I am the king of patience when it comes to waiting for devices to come out; I waited for two generations before getting an iPod touch.

So maybe next year--or maybe once the iDroid project works on things other than iPhones 2G and 3G and the iPod 1g.

BTW Locutus, I don't know how long you want to wait until your next phone, but the Nexus One, which may be a year old but is still a kick-ass phone, has been available for ~250-270 brand new online for the past few weeks. You may want to jump on that, if you want to buy a phone without contract and forced data plan.

My life's work is complete.

On a serious note, I hear a new Nexus phone will be featured with Ice Cream later this year. I will be semi pissed since I bought the Nexus S at full price when it came out last year, but still... Nexus line is awesome. I don't run CM7 though; I prefer stock as opposed to unofficial ROMs. Im paranoid about security.

Android looks 100% awesome, but the only devices with what I consider Android is the Nexus line. Everything else has Fauxdroid. Cyanogen anyone? Your device is probably already supported, it's not like a locked bootloader ever stopped anyone: the Desire, the EVO 4G, the Desire Z, the Incredible, the Desire HD, the Hero, the Magic, the Legend, the myTouch Slide, the myTouch 4G, the Wildfire, Aria, and the Click all have official CyanogenMods, and most other phones have unofficial Cyanogens.

My next mobile device will 100% be Android. No more of this iOS stuff.
