I've exchaned a total of 3 emails back and forth with that oh-so-helpful () support person at AnVir. Each time all the person would say is that the 2 methods on their forum should work. And then I told them that the methods didn't work. Then they told me they should work.

I finally gave up and told the rep that I'm done with this. I will not run their task manager on my computer or purchase anything from them, ever.

There has been no response from them since. But that's ok, really, I've had enough of this issue and have moved on.

Oh, the methods they suggest on their forum are exactly what I'd already tried thanks to you folk that offered your ideas here. Except Ashraf's that is. They don't mention that one at all.

Now when I start it, it starts as administrator. I get to see the temp like I wanted to.

The thing is, I can't make it start automatically when I start the computer.

It's in the startup folder, and I selected run at startup in the program's options.

It just doesn't like my computer.

If you use Windows Task Schedular and setup AnVir to run at boot, you can run it with the highest privalges (i.e. admin rights). Try it .

So,,, they designed and released their software with an issue that they knew would make the program work in a way that it isn't supposed to, and it's the fault of Windows 7?

Maybe I'm just to tired or grumpy, but that sounds like a lame excuse to me.

I'm glad that there are other options out there. I'm also very glad and thankful to Ashraf for giving me the opportunity to find out about the issue without having to pay a bunch of money for it.

Spyware Terminator 2.6.5.111 is better/faster than WinPatrol in alerting you if some new process has come up. Try it. Btw use version 2.6.5.111 only & not any later version.

The added plus point is that this good boy app also has a "digital signature database" of a list of good boy apps. It won't get fooled (I mean SPT 2.6.5.111) into a sense of false security simply because Windows Explorer says that the app has a Digital Signature. I am not elaborating because the added benefit (italics) is an off-thread point albeit a useful one.

Psst……..also change your icon by removing the cigarette! I remember Conn09 saying that computers are temperamental too! Maybe the cigarette smoke is hassling your laptop. Perhaps that's all there is to it. Just joking!

I've got WinPatrol/Plus installed too, to cover that task. WinPatrol warnings do take a bit longer to pop up tho. I don't like that so much, but what can I do? Other than using AnVir.

I use Anvir mainly to warn me when new programs try to add themselves to the startup.  I love that functionality.  Even TurboTax wanted to add itself to the startup and I was very glad to easily be able to say NO!!!

I went to the AnVir support forum this afternoon. The options already posted are the things I already tried but that didn't work. So I left a post asking for any ideas. There haven't been any replies to that post yet, but if someone does reply and gives a way to fix it, I will post it here.

For me, having to make an adjustment to a program every time I start my computer makes that program one that I don't want. If it was a program that I really needed, that would be different.

I think I may have a similar problem. Occasionally, when I start up my laptop, the temperature also doesn't show up, but instead a blank space takes its place in the quick launch area. I have a hunch that maybe it's due to my system(Vista) being 64-bit.

What I do to solve this is right click on the blank space (which strangely shows the anvir menu) click exit and restart anvir manually. Sometimes I have to do this 2 or 3 times but eventually the quick launch icon(with the temp) will eventually show up again instead of the blank space. If this is the case, you can try my method, but I have never encountered the admin aspect of your problem.

But you got me thinking, so I created a new shortcut, set it to start as administrator, and then put that shortcut into the startup folder. That didn't do any good.

So then I went opened Anvir's startup manager and right clicked on Anvir in that list. I put a check mark in the box that said start as administrator. Restart computer. I thought I'd found the answer but Anvir wouldn't start without me clicking on the desktop shortcut after everything else has loaded. What the heck??? I tried to go back and undo the check-box so at least it would start at bootup, but I wasn't given the option of doing that, it's grayed out.

At that point my frustration hit a peak (I'm on day 4 of my latest stop smoking attempt, frustration is running high for a lot of things right now) so I uninstalled the program all together. I didn't use it for much other than monitoring the HD temp and CPU usage anyway. On this new computer neither one of those things has been an issue.

I might reinstall it and try again later, but for now I think I'll just leave it uninstalled. (Knowing me, that could change by this afternoon tho...)

Just right-click on the program or shortcut and select Properties.  For a shortcut, select the Shortcut tab.  At the bottom is an Advanced button.  Click it and then select the checkbox to 'Run as Administrator'.  Click Ok/Apply to exit all the windows and it will run as the administrator all the time.

I'm not going to retype my question, because that's to long too.

Like I said, I'll probably just go on the Anvir site in the morning and ask the techs that get paid to know the answer. If that  is, nobody here has an easy answer.

If I do get the answer from AnVir, I'll post it here so that if anybody else ever runs into the same problem or something close to it, they can have an idea of what to do.

I do hope I've understood you correctly. I also hope if I've understood you correctly just so what I am about to suggest solves the problem.

I think you what you want is this - even when you click the "X" icon to exit Anvir you do not want Anvir Task Manager version 6.2.0 to disappear. Instead you want Anvir to minimize to your system tray. Am I right Wheezer?

I faced your same problem on WinXP 32 bit Professional non-.NET "desktop". Like you I too had only one logon aka system administrator; there was no other guest logon even configured. This is what I did. It solved my problem.

When you choose to exit Anvir, on my machine Anvir asks me if you want it to disappear or just minimize to the system tray. I always choose the second option.

Also since you have to drive all the way to Starbucks to surf & it isn't close by   I'll share with you another learning with the fond hope that it helps you. Please do one thing. Inside Anvir click on Tools - Options. Inside Tools whatever I have to say is contained in "Properties" & "Tray Icons and Menu"

In "Properties" select "Load Anvir Task Manager On Startup". It might help you.

In "Tray Icons and Menu" select "CPU. Amount of CPU..............", "Show CPU load........", "Disk. Current load & temperature............", "Disk Temperature", "°C or °F", "Memory. Current Usage of Physical Memory". You might also wish to choose a few more parameters.

I stuck to just these "selections". Consequently I have 3 Anvir icons on my system tray - one monitoring CPU (it tells me if CPU is behaving well or has gone nuts), one monitoring RAM (it tells me is if RAM is behaving well or has gone nuts) & it also tells me what my computer temperature is.

Btw although I've suggested "Load Anvir Task Manager On Startup" I haven't done that. My reason is only that I keep no. of items to the bare minimum just so I give every opportunity for my security apps to "initialize" quickly.

Sometimes some bad boy apps try to thwart this effort & you then get a remark saying - Sorry I could not initialize properly, so this service is denied to you. This last para however is subject matter for a seperate thread rather than this one.

I hope this helps. One last thing - please do no not say Omigod this calls for more computer savviness than what Wheezer has. Wheezer you keep saying that you suffer from "TMB" but don't ever say that you suffer from "TLS" - aka too little savviness. I for one wouldn't agree.
