Curved display is a marketting gimmick more than anything: It doesn't take away or add to the experience of using the phone. In fact sometimes I even forget it has a curved display...

In regards to NFC, I hear the NFC may be read only, although that is probably a software limitation as opposed to hardware.

If you are looking for an Android phone, and are willing to move to T-Mobile and/or use 2G on AT&T, Nexus S is the phone to get right now. This may change next month, though, when the LG Optimus2X comes out.

The one and only.
Also, this seems to be the most tempting phone I've ever seen. Maybe it's because it's the whole promise of the Google experience, or maybe it's the cool-looking design.

How's the curved display?

And this is why I'm glad I live in Portland. If I get a Nexus S (I won't though) I can actually use its cool, unique feature.

Personally speaking, I am not a fan of custom ROMs. Why? One word: Security. I use my phone for many things including managing my bank account. People that post custom ROMs are typically just random strangers; while I have no doubt most - if not all - of the custom ROMs available at XDA are "safe", there is no way to gaurentee some punk doesn't cook in something malicious. For that reason alone I stick with stock instead of going with custom ROMs. In fact my dislike of custom ROMs is one of the biggest reasons I went with the Nexus S: I don't have to get the latest Android updates via unofficial sources.

To me custom ROMs are akin to installing a custom version of Windows: A security hazard.

Like other SGS phones, Captivate has its fair share of problems. However, the Captivate is definetly not a waste of money. It is a great phone.

That said, right now the Nexus S is the best Android phone out on the market However, dual-cores are just around the corner and the AT&T version of Nexus S has not come out yet. So if you are on AT&T, the Captivate is the best Android phone they have right now.

how is the Galaxy S in comparison??? i got back on R&R and how a brain fart.. I remembered the S ..and noticed that a lot were promoting the Galaxy S over here.. and ATT had it.. i talked to the guy and what not .. and supposedly the Galaxy S is "better" in a lot of ways over the iPhone4.. tho as agreed the Iphone prolly has the more stable software.. so .. I bought the Galaxy S which is the Captivate or something like that from ATT… so far I like it.. feels great.. light.. has bigger and better screen than the iphone.. has 16gb built in and can hold a 32gb sd card so can hold more than the iphone.. so far runs fast… i did a software update.. and didnt appear to be "that bad" as you make it out to be above..

anyway.. would be great to hear some input on it.. how it compares to the nexus S and did i just waste my money ;)

htnx
