Greetings all! I was thinking it might be helpful for students at all levels of study to add a topic for the best (preferably free) academic-related software. As a full-time worker and part-time masters student, I am always on the lookout for programs that can make my research and study a bit easier - be that in terms of time-efficiency, information collation, bibliographies, etc. So if anyone has any suggestions, please post.

The tools I'm using at present are:

Zotero

Endnote (which we are supplied for free courtesy of my university)

Percent (a nice, light little prog for when I have to calculate percentages)

I have just installed Mendeley desktop (freeware) but have yet to go through it and see if it will be of benefit

And I am always on the lookout for a good (free) tree-style note program into which I can link web pages and images, as well as text (and one that allows me to export as Word docs or rtfs). Alas, I am yet to find exactly what I'm looking for despite trying numerous progs.

So how about all the rest of you students out there. What software do you find indispensible?
