OfflineI've been a Verizon Wireless customer for years and have been very happy with the service, but have a hopelessly obsolete phone because I just didn't like any the Verizon smart phones. Now the Droid line comes along and I am ready to move ahead. I've read a lot of reviews but honestly just cannot decide between these two. Either one, I'll have to order it and wait, no going to the store to buy it.
Droid X is bigger, the screen is gorgeous, but maybe too big to carry around as a phone, and feels a little silly to try to "talk" on it (I simply held it to my face in position.) I've read the HTC Incredible's "overlay" to the Android operating system is better than the Motorola, but I don't really know what that means and how it affect a newbie user.
My needs are pretty simple…..be able to make phone calls, internet for occasional searches while away, a good contacts database that can be integrated with a desktop program, a good calendar. Not much social networking or texting now, but some, and like having the camera. But I still want the best phone, because I don't update every 6 months and I'll want to grow with it.
So, experience, opinions?

OfflineVerizon really has excellent phone service, seldom drops a call and has coverage pretty much everywhere I have been or want to be…in this country, anyway. There is an add-on fee for the data use of a smart phone, but I am finally willing to pay it because these phones are so good. The Google maps and directions feature which follows in real time is nearly as good as a GPS with the same function, thus cutting out the need for yet another device. I could wait for the Droid 2, which will have the slide-out keyboard, but honestly, I can't see how any grown person can use those keyboards without hitting 3-5 keys at the same time. The touch screens are quite touchy too but I think that is a matter of experience.
I'm disappointed…I thought you would have the answer to my dilemma!

Okay, I looked over both these two phones. Personally if I were you I would go with Droid X cause typing on a touchscreen is a pain in the ***.
Anyways… typing using the touchscreen seems alright with me. Nothing's wrong, and everything's all good for me.
How is that a pain in the butt Ashraf? You keep on typing the wrong stuff?

Both the Droid X and HTC Incredible are touch-screen only. I was under the assumption the Droid X had the slide-out keyboard too, but I went to the store and played with them a bit and the sales guy said, nope, both touch screen. the original Droid, and the Droid 2, coming out in August, have the slide out keyboard. But they are obviously thicker and heavier.
The Droid X has a larger screen, though, so the touch-screen keypad would be larger. Something to think about.
OfflineWell, personally, I'm an iPhone user and love it. While I'm probably a bit of a fangirl, I'm not opposed to Android phones, I just happen to like the iPhone better. I think the competition is good for both companies.
Anyway, based on your probable uses, I would say go with the Incredible. Since you seem to intend to use your phone as a phone (imagine that!!! I probably make no more than 60 min of calls a month), the larger Droid X may seem too big after a while. I don't remember exactly how big the Incredible's screen is, but I've never felt the iPhone's 3.7" screen was lacking in size and I do a lot of web browsing and email with it.
Also, you do get used to typing on the touch screen keyboards. Although I don't know about the Android phones specifically, the predictive typing algorithms on most of these phones really help by correcting your typing errors.
In the end, if you've never had a smart phone before, you'll be amazed and will probably use it a lot more than you expected. I went from a plain phone (didn't even text) to the iPhone 3G and now I can't imagine being without a smart phone (I upgraded to the iPhone 4 a month ago).
[Removed by Ashraf. Reason: When I ask for your permission you are more than welcome to give it. Until then, keep it to yourself. "Crap" is not a cuss word, so I see no reason why I can't use it. I have removed your offending comments before it causes another issue.]
When I was buying my phone. The salesman said that HTC breaks easily, apposed to LG. Is it true? Or no? Well, I do know that LG did break easily back then, but that was the past. They changed.

Offline@Sunfish: If you are a big modder my Android-geek friend tells me the Droid X is not very modder friendly (apparently there is a chip inside the Droid X that prevents rooting). Something worth considering if that is important for you.
Hands down, though, in specs the Droid X blows the HTC Incredible out of the water in my opinion.
@Ashraf: Not to worry, I believe they've already rooted it.

:D
Offline@Jabtano: It's only if you install non-approved ROMs, not if you root the phone or anything. I'm guessing this'll be easily worked around-leaving just the parts the eFuse checks in place.
Also, the first group to discover it was an Android forum, where it was picked up by MobileCrunch.

Apparently Droid X's software is horrible; Moto seems to have screwed it up badly.
Crap, I think I saw the wrong phone. Now that I properly look at it, Droid X >>>> HTC Incredible if you can wait like 2 weeks until it comes out.
