OfflineBackground:
I had asked about ways to send and
received large video files to my sister in Australia. I got lots of
ideas from a whole bunch of people, and finally settled on TeamViewer as
the possible way to go.
Because of the interest in the subject, I
said I would post about the what happens when we actually tried sending
the files.
We finished the transfer a few minutes ago.
Although it would be more accurate to say that we gave up on the
transfer.
The total size of the file we were transferring was
1.4GB. At the start of the transfer it estimated that the time it would
take to complete the transfer was over 5 days!
I
thought that the estimate was probably wrong. But I was wrong.
The
total amount that we got transferred was 47.5MB. It took 3 hours to
transfer that amount. The program said it was transferring at a rate of
5kb/s.
Needless to say, that speed is unacceptable. So we stopped
the transfer and will try something else. Although my sister is
frustrated and said she is going to put the file on a DVD and mail it to
me.
Oh well, time to look into the other possibilities people
gave me.
I can give you an account on my FTP server (it has the same address of my site, http://mafia-penguin.com). Then you can use FileZilla or something similar to upload your files to either the website or a thing not directly accessible via the web! You for instance could upload files to http://mafia-penguin.com/wheezersfiles or whatever.

I won't be a problem anymore by posting.
Sorry to have troubled you…

@ Whezzer, and everyone else.
Please don't start anymore threads on this topic. This weekend I will attempt to merge all the threads on this subject into one. I may edit, delete or move posts as needed. I will lock the the other threads for the time being. Carry on the above discussion below.
Am I missing something? What the heck is wrong with Wheezer updating us on this in a separate post topic? We've all been working to solve this problem for him.
And Wheezer, my friend, why ex-member?
Jeez, what the *%$# is going in here lately.

OfflineAs Karen said, that's all I was going to do. I don't see what the the big drama was all about. There's 4 or 5 threads relating back to one question. Is it not better to put it all together so anyone else who has the same problem down the track, can reference it easily. At the moment it is scattered all over the place?

My apologies for misunderstanding. Put it down to me being tired. Now for a cup of coffee to get the mind working again …

I am sure Amnesia meant well by tying up threads together & Wheezer being the wonderful person Wheezer is, expressed regret over inconvenience he (Wheezer) perceived he had caused inadvertently.
Therefore I am confident Wheezer would get back. Both Wheezer & amnesia are fine humans like all dottechies. Only when people care for each other are they frank & polite. That's our collective strength.
Both topical approaches – integration or non integration are fine with the former having a slight edge. I prefer integration. YMMV
My gut tells me that we would have a happy ending here . Being human there can be a different point of view in terms of opinion & perception in blog & in life. We have to take it in stride & move on. I think bonding & integrity have never posed a question mark to or about anyone's intentions on either side on our wonderful site. I do not think anyone chided anyone here.
In the past too people have continued to bond & trust – even on occasions where a chide was involved.
Hey Wheezer!
Miss you!

Why is Wheezer an ex-member?
I'm guessing that Ozzie is refering to Wheezer's statement: "I won't be a problem anymore by posting."
I hope he doesn't stay away.
Karen I just noticed this. I guess Locutus noticed it before all of us did. It is not just Wheezer's statement but also his logo. He has changed his logo to "Ex-Member."

@ Ebony
You're welcome.
BTW, what is GCS ? Grand … something ? It is as much coded as the post of Sean for me.

You have not heard about the infamous Geek Cheat Sheet?
I have a cheat sheet where I copy answers to certain questions on here so that I can use them for future reference so that I will not have to come back to the site and search for the question and response. It also gives me a chance to review somethings that I do not understand.
Suffice it too say, I have a lot of good techie nuggets in there.
