I'm looking for a cheap graphics tablet that would be compatible with GIMP and Inkscape. As I'm not the "professional artist" and more of a hobbyist, I'd rather it be cheap. I've found Wacom's Bamboo Pen Tablet, which has received some good reviews and is in my price range.

So, does anyone have any experience with graphics tablets and/or any suggestions on which tablet I should buy?

By reputation, Wacom tablets are good, but I haven't used them personnally.

Thanks karen. It'll probably be a Wacom, since everybody else likes them so much. I've still got time to change my mind, if any one else has any other suggestions.

Hi Casey,  I got a wacom a couple of years ago with a Corel paint and Adobe elements software bundle and it works  well in those Progs. The mouse and pen are both good for detail, and set how you like them, also just came here from Softonic and there is a new USB version of GIMP, GimPhoto portable 1.4.3 remade to be like photoshop setup.

Hi Casey, Its a Bamboo fun, came with elements 5 Adobe and Corel Painter essentials 3 for around $250.00 at the time and its 280mm x 235mm.

I also put in my vote for Wacom tablets. I have one of the Bamboo tablets, but I can't remember the model. It was less than $100, and I use it really often Wink

Hi,

I recently purchased a Wacom Bamboo Fun that is a Factor refurb (comes w/1 yr warranty) for just under $130.00. I was surprised to get the 1 yr warranty for the price I paid. I thought it was worth it!

Factory Refurbished sounds nice. If I order a factory-refurbished tablet, should I be worried about any major drawbacks that will affect my usage of it? (scratches and minor "blemishes" on the exterior are fine)

I got a Wacom Bamboo tablet. It works great with both my Vista and Ubuntu. I've already started drawing with it.

 

It was a successful purchase and I fully recommend it.
