Will Microsoft really stoop to this level? It's probably all speculation at this point, but the fact that they could do this if they wanted to is really bad. I will have lost all my respect for Microsoft if they do this.

I hope not. According to the article, it seems they can indirectly do this through the SecureBoot technology. I don't know if this still infringes the Anti-trust laws, but I doubt they're gonna make it obvious. They might try to use some cheap marketing trick like the SecureBoot to pressure manufacturers into making it hard to install other OS's. Then again, this is all speculation.

My guess is any sort of boot restriction will have to be able to be turned off. Otherwise they will get their arses sued off.

Kind of off-topic, but I was watching a movie called Red Dragon yesterday on Netflix (movie was too slow -- I didn't finish it, quit about halfway in) where a psychopath was dubbed the "tooth fairy". Talk about deja vu when I read your post. xD
