After testing various movies, I've come to the conlusion that SNOWFOX is better than my Xilisoft Ulitimate 6 for my iPhone 4 video conversions from MKV,AVI to H264 720P format for the iPhone 4.

Reasons:

1. Xilisoft will have blocks that are very visible here and there while snowfox was a smooth picture.

2. Videos that have the subtitles embeded into the video xilisoft couldn't convert the subtitles over while Snowfox could. A big plus for anyone that loves fansubs.

3. The video size is smaller though only a 30-50mb smaller still a nice chunk.

All test were done with the same settings on both Xilisoft and Snowfox:

1280x720, H264, 30fps, 2000bitrate(I've tried all other settings and 2k ended being the best), 160kbps/48k audio.

Movies tested:

UP, Cars, Toy Story 1/2, The Hangover, FF7AC, Hot Tub TM, Iron Man, Transformers 1+2, Avatar, Sword of the stranger. All BD versions.

Unless someone else has another converter I should try for my iPhone 4 conversions I think I've found a good one and that is SnowFox.

Thanks Ashraf for the hookup!

Yea it is legit; although I have never personally looked for it, I know exactly what key he is talking about.

@Lascannon: I believe the offer was running while I was on vacation so I didn't write about it.

Just did another test this time with a couple of my animation videos with subtitles already on it.

Xilisoft couldn't show the subtitles, but Snowfox did. Now that's a plus for me since I have a lot of animation movies/videos that already have the subtitles on it.

I also realized that Snowfox's conversion for animation films are a lit smoother with the same settings as Xilisoft.

But I've got on more test to do, and that is a 3D film such as disney UP and Toy Story because I love those lol.

Will reply back with my findings, of course this is mainly converting with the H264 720P 30FPS format since that's what my iPhone 4 is capable of.

Been doing a couple of test here and there. when converting to my iPhone 4 Snowfox actually did better and my Xilisoft Ultimate. Areas in the movie where I saw pixels and blocks with Xilisoft I didn't see in Snowfox… hrmm

@Lascannon yeah I am using Xilisoft for that one purpose, but since I've got my iPhone 4 now I jsut can't go back to the DS screen lol.

I guess a little more testing. Thanks for replys guys. Anyone else out there use Snowfox?

Of coarse it is! It's on their twitter page. Remember back then Ashraf wrote a post about the giveaway? Or no wait... was it AskVG or Raymond.cc... I'm not really sure. :/

I prefer Xilisoft. On their twitter, their key code should still work by now. Last time I checked, it worked a few weeks ago.

Anyways... Xilisoft has a bit more functions than SnowFox does. One interesting function is converting video for the Nintendo DS. This really puzzled me at first, but when I realized when it said "for Moonshell V. (something something) or up", I realized that the converting were for the DS homebrews!

If anyone's curious, "Moonshell" is a homebrew where you can listen to music and watch videos using a special DS Card not manufactured by Nintendo. On the top, there is a slot where you slot in your micro-SD where all your music and videos are stored. I'm not sure about this, but I think you can also view photos with Moonshell.

Here are articles about Moonshell and DS Homebrews if you your'e still curious:

I have used it but not extensively. It is very similar to the WinX and Wondershare video converters. Not surprising since most of these video converters are a front-end for a GPL (I think) video converter API.
