You can't have My3G and MyWi without Rock. I actually tried uninstalling Rock and it takes My3G and MyWi with it. I then tried to install My3G through Cydia and it automatically reinstalled Rock. I did a bit of searching and apparently Rock handles the licensing and payments for those two apps.

But thanks for the warning. I'll definitely be careful what I download from Rock. The Rock App though is definitely much faster than Cydia.

Oh, I understand. In the past, uninstalling Rock would brick your device, but they've apparently fixed that.

If you want to back up your jailbreak apps, just install AptBackup. If you run it, it writes a list of all your jailbreak apps and moves it to a location backed up by itunes. Then, when you back up your device, itunes backs up the list. Then, if something goes wrong and you have to rejailbreak, you can install AptBackup, restore your device from the backup with the list, and run AptBackup to restore. AptBackup will then download and install all your jailbreak apps. If it removes all of your app store apps, just sync with itunes one more time to fix it.

Good things to know, thanks! I did not know about CyDelete.

I did backup before I did the jailbreak so I have a recent backup. The only things that aren't backed up are the couple of jailbreak apps.

I didn't know about Rock's history. I mainly installed it to try out the trial versions of MyWi and My3G.

Hmmm… I'd have to recommend against Rock. Rock has had a bad history, and Intelliscreen, Rock's MobileSubstrate, is known to damage MobileSubstrate. But, I won't stop you from keeping it. But anyway, I'd recommend CyDelete, so that you can delete Cydia apps from SpringBoard, and I'd recommend SBSettings, so that you can have quick access to your device's settings from a quick swipe of the status bar. Also, if you use Facebook or Twitter often, then qTweeter is a must.

I'm developing an app called NewName. What it will do is allow you to rename apps on SpringBoard. If all goes well, you can expect it to be up on Cydia in a while (around two weeks).

Also, whenever you are going to make a big change to your device, you should back up in itunes first, in case anything goes wrong.

Sorry, I didn't notice you had already installed SBSettings.

The latest jailbreak was simple to execute. Just go to jailbreakme.com and swipe the screen to start it. Took only about 30 seconds each.

Haven't installed too much yet or investigated the details of what I did install.
--sbsettings
--Rock app store (+ Cydia which comes as part of the jailbreak)
--OpenSSH (and changed the default root and mobile passwords)

--the trial version of MyWi which creates a wifi hotspot and I managed to connect my wifi iPad to my iPhone4's data connection

I'm not really interested in Backgrounder since I have an iPhone4 and the themes don't interest me at all.

I haven't decided on the various lock screen widgets or notification apps yet.

At this point, the wifi hotspot is the best reason to jailbreak since I have the wifi-only iPad but I have the grandfathered $30 unlimited iPhone data plan. I'm not really sure if I like sbsettings or not since I never minded the default Apple settings app.

Any other apps I really should install?
