You are paying for advertising that tells you it's cool. Otherwise, you could just get inexpensive hardware (generic PC) and put a free operating system on it (Linux) and have software as good as Apple with non-proprietary hardware. However, you don't see ads for that on TV.

so i want to buy a macbook pro.. i go to apple's site.. and guess what the base price is $999.. i mena wtf… that too for a macbook only (low end).
the thing is..wouldnt it be smarter for apple to sell its products at a cheaper rate in the market (like something reasonable) around $500.. or something…
sure they have monopoly on hte entire thing, but still they would get a bigger cash income (right?)
but yeah whats with hte whole 200 bucks for a 2.66 Ghz processor nad bigger hard-drive (talking about hte macbook pro 13.3 models) thats lameeeee….
this is a rant btw (if u didnt notice) grrrrr…. my dad is paying for everything but stilllll
one more thing (sry bout the typos) and dude this whole math addition thingy on hte site is pretty cool.. lol! thanks ashraf!

yah but isnt that really stupid. their production cost is cheap compared to their marketing range.
so if they take $500 for a macbook or something, wouldnt they be able to monopolize the whole technology economy.. cuz that would be a frickin good deal..
idk apple does make good prodcuts but they are just so greedy for money. (lol!)

Its called paying for the brand. Its like paying $100 for shoes at some name brand store when you could get an identical-in-every-way pair at Payless or wherever for $20. Apple likes to convince people that their hardware is somehow superior or special by jacking up the price and hiding the real specs away where only techies would look.

And that's why I don't use Apple computers (I've always been fine with my low-priced middle class Windows computers so far) …unless somewhere down the line I realize I really have no choice and need it….

Macs are a dying breed. With iOS products (iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad) buoying Apple's earnings per share, Apple is going to be committing less and less resources to their Mac OS X department. Soon Macs will become collector items. =P
Apple's decision to highly price Macs is two-fold:
- Before Macs became as popular as they are today, no one would think of getting a Mac (over a Windows PC), unless they needed it or preferred the Mac brand. So, Apple realized they weren't going to be able to sell to the masses, but they would be able up-charge the people that do purchase Macs.
- It gives Macs the status of "desirable item" and anyone that has it joins the exclusive "Mac club", so to speak. Simple marketing.
At the same time, however, Apple products always come with great customer support, and Apple has put a lot more time into refining Mac OS X (i.e. working out most of the kinks so it runs smoother than Windows), so… yeah. Really, you are paying the extra money for Mac OS X as opposed to hardware.

well i was gonan get a PC (windows) but me and my dad had a big argument over which i should get.. he thought macs were better nad i said PC's were (cuz ive been a PC forever) but then my family joined on his side nad i was alone..
so he finally said.. that i can get a PC but i have to pay for it.. while if i got a mac he'll pay for everything (and apple gives a free itouch too) so being msart im like wahtever and i decided to get the macbook pro (since he's paying for it). lol

LOL! I also have friends that bought Macs and sold the iTouch and printer that came with it. Maybe you could use the cash from that to buy yourself a high end netbook?

@ashraf hahahha.. ya.. its cuz a person my dad knows said that macs are better. lol… so he just said that he'll buy the mac and it should last for a long imte (so i dont change it every two years or something) my parents are COOOOLLL!!!!
@jyo: idk.. (they come with a printer.. i didnt know that) but i kinda want the itouch.. i always wanted one but two much money nad my dad wouldn buy it for me. and i just dont wnat to spend money..
