I've never had a reason to run erp programs, so I'm sorry that I can't help you there.

But I tend to keep lots of programs up and running at the same time, and I've never had any stability problems.

I would guess that Win7 would run the programs slightly better than Vista (on the same hardware) since in general it is a little lighter on resources than Vista. But it was built based on Vista, so I don't think you would have any issues.

Ami an accountant from South Africa was very happy with Vista since it ran heavy apps - sap, baana, many other accountancy apps too. It did look for a moment that this was one strong area for vista. Does Win7 compare poorly on this aspect?

I've used all the windows flavors since Windows 3.0 except I kinda skipped Windows ME. I definitely like Win7 the best. It seems the fastest and most stable.

Of course, hardware has gotten faster all along, so it is entirely possible that WinXP would be really, really fast on my laptop (about 1 year old, came with Vista, upgraded to Win7 Pro).

But I usually have a mixture of OS's around. Right now I have the Win7 laptop, my husband's Vista machine, 2 old Win2000 desktops (mainly just used for kid's games so I don't feel like upgrading them), and I usd WinXP at work. In general, they are all pretty stable for the use they get. I also have 32 processor, 64gb memory unix servers at work to play around with (but command line only no nice UI).

I don't see why anyone would like Vista better. Windows 7 is everything Vista is but made to work better, faster, and given more functionality. Anything you don't like can be turned off to make it like Vista.

So seriously. Why would anyone prefer the resource hog over the new and better version; it's lighter, faster, and does more stuff.

I used to be a huge fan of mac, but that changed as soon as Win7 came out.

Can't wait for my new machine!

Neat thought! Well put. You can use Win7 as Win7 or you can use Win7 as Vista. Wow! Smart work.

It would have been nice if they provided "optional backward integration" in hardware too & not just software. Else, one weird thing which could happen is:-

The rich would have Win7

The middle income group would have Vista

The poor would have Xp

A Queen of France was known to have said "If you don't like bread eat cakes". We all know what happened to her. Don't we? Surely Microsoft can learn some lessons....................just so over the years it doesn't metamorphose into a shrunken company catering only to the elite......................with an elitist product

Hi Karen!

Gosh, that also shattered some myths in my mind – US govt chooses not to have the latest OS. Common sense tells me its not due to resources . Rather it is a wise move to use "technology which has stabilized rather than technology which is the latest." I make this point only with utmost respect & "economics" & totally without any broadsides or innuendoes please. We are after all, all of us global citizens. I also love USA.

It should make Microsoft introspect & improve their product both along software & hardware parameters too. Ever since .NET was visioned between 2000 & 2002 June the vision had always been to make OS – "platform independent" & "device independent". The recession is possibly an excellent opportunity to make Win7 more "device independent". I do not say – "device independent" (aka laptop-palmtop-desktop) but lower versions or older versions of hardware.

This strategy would ensure that Microsoft would not lose market share in lower middle & lower income groups. The Redmond guys have been version naming OS based upon feature inclusion or feature exclusion. Why not use this as a basis instead.

Hey thanks for the metion Ramesh, i'm sure then that you read my own review and opinion of Windows 7?

Well guys i would have to say that Vista and 7 are matched, yes windows 7 has a lot of features but it also uses a lot more resources for quite uunnecessarythings.

Oh and Ramesh i'm only 15, the first OS that i used was Windows 98 and that was when Xp was actually out, then after about 10 years we got a laptop with Windows xp on it and i was amazed, i was young and had never seen such an amazing thing, now i still have my xp laptop and use it a lot but also have, as of june last year, a Windows Vista Desktop, so unfortunately i haven't used that many, i do have a few copys of windows 2000 boxed from some office junk being thrown out at where my dad works, i also got a copy of Windows 98 again and also windows 95. But so far i have only used 98, XP and Vista. Until recently, when i ran Windows 7 Enterprise trial on a Virtual machine with plenty of resources and such, unfortunately, it was horribly slow, the problem with all of its new features means more RAM usage, and more expensive tech, maybe its just me, but i sont much like windows 7, maybe after a year or two when its had its updates and everything i will get a copy of it, or maybe i'll buy a laptop with it preinstalled, if we can afford it, not much money really, i was quite lucky to get this new computer.

Cheers,

Hi Conn09!

What a smart appraisal you made:-

Win7 is feature richer but also unnecessarily resource hungrier for computer resources & costlier hardware too.

Vista is less feature richer than Win7 but also is "not" unnecessarily resource hungrier for computer resources & does not require costlier hardware like Win7.

Very smart thinking regarding your approach to Win7- I quote you – "maybe after a year or two when

its had its updates and everything i will get a copy of it".

I disagree with you on just one point Conn09. You are – ("Oh and Ramesh i'm only 15)". *I totally disagree Conn09*. You are not "only 15". You are "a very smart 15 year old – wiser beyond your years". It's a pleasure meeting you. In any case age does not matter. What you are matters. You are a fine "what & who" as far as I am concerned. :)

At a personal level I am sharing a Unilever detergent ad I found very inspiring. There is a schoolboy on a bicycle which is right next to a Mercedes with a CEO inside it. They are standing at a signal which happens to be red. The CEO looks at the sweaty kid & disgustedly/arrogantly rolls up his power windows to enjoy the AC inside his car. The CEO also remarks

deprecatingly at the sweaty middle class kid (going to school).

That kid was as smart & self respecting as you Conn09.

When the CEO rolled down his power windows again the kid turns to him & sayssays – " Hey mister the only difference between you & me is just 2 extra wheels. One day I'll get them too"!

I just felt like sharing this with you Conn09. You are definitely on the list of "young people who make it in life". Have a fine day!
