Actually, the ribbon doesn't bother me. But what I'd really like to see in MS Word - and it is numero uno on my wishlist - is the ability to tab all the pages (like Nitro PDF, PDF XChange Viewer, etc). I generally have many pages open, and it's a pain in the posterior to have to individually bring them all up (the Windows 7 taskbar tabs don't fit the bill). I have tried the freeware OfficeTab, but it doesn't work on Word 2010 (I'm using the 2010 Office beta version) and I really don't want to have to uninstall it and go back and install Office 2007. I have also tried another free one called Word Addin Tabs, and while it did work, it set off AV alarm bells. Ran it through virustotal.com and it came up with a few trojan warnings (http://www.virustotal.com/anal.....1264948084), so I uninstalled it. If anyone knows of a tab program for Office, please, please post. Why Microsoft didn't include this as a feature in the 2010 version of Office is beyond me.

I didn't know that trick either. I'll have to try it at work. I don't have office installed at home. I use OpenOffice when I need to create document or spreadsheet.

Say it was a flow charting program, or a grahics editor, wouldn't y'all like that extra space for your main work area ?

I have a compromise suggestion -

It should have an option to auto hide.

Thus you get the full work area.

When you move the mouse to the top of the screen, the Ribbon becomes visible.

Once you move your mouse lower than the Ribbon, it hides.

I agree. Once I got used to them, I like them now. But mainly what I like is consistency across different software so I that I can find what I'm looking for. Whether it is the ribbon or menus, I don't care too much. I also usually learn the hot keys for the functions I use the most.

Perhaps you could create a forum where we could rant.

My rant is regarding Ribbons that take up 20% of the available working area.

Probably MS started it with Office 2007, which i will never use.

PicPick ruined an almost perfect program by changing over to a Ribbon.

I ranted to him, and I think he has since made it optional.

However he has also changed the previous ability to right click a Tab and name it prior to saving (It now just saves with a time stamp), so I won't be using the later versions.

I just downloaded another program which has a Ribbon.

There is no option to hide it, and no option to revert to Menus.

I have just uninstalled it.

Could we set up a petition for all software developers to choke themselves with their Ribbons, or to always build in the ability to either -

- Toggle the displaying of the Ribbon, or

- Revert to classic Menus

I think an appropriate word to describe them (developers who take it upon themselves to dictate how we will work) - chutzpah

I am not happy,

Rob
