You can use a portable hard drive to do your clone – they're very cheap nowadays, with 1TB (1024GB) drives costing only about US$110. And you probably won't need a drive that big too.

My 1st thumbdrive was one of those "in the right place at the right time" purchases.
I was at work at the pawnshop when a guy came in that needed cash in a hurry. He had 4 – 8GB Sandisk thumbdrives. The store bought all 4 of them for $20 total. I bought one from the store for cost, $5. Now I wish I would have bought them all. The store owner had no idea what they are worth.
I carried mine around in my pocket for about a week. Didn't have any files on it that I had any reason to use on a different computer, so I didn't need to carry it around. But did it anyway.

Your hard drive had 1/2048 of what my computer had. 40GB. I'm on it right now running Ubuntu (sorry about the jacked thread jacking, Ubuntu is epic).
