OfflineMany posts incorporate acronyms like LOL, BTW, IMHO, OTOH etc., but how many are fully understood by all that visit dotTech?
I will admit to not being conversant with all those others that are randomly used (for instance, what is LMAO?) and suggest, especially for helping those whose first language is NOT English, the following possibilities.
Vulgar expressions like WTF obviously would still need to have a modicum of censorship for sake of decorum and good taste. All proposed item 2 entries would of necessity thus have to first be moderated before being adopted.
Hope to see those speech bubbles appearing soon. TTFN
P.S. – NO, I do not want to have to Google everytime an unfamiliar expression comes up.! :=(
OfflineI don't claim to know at lot of the texting abbreviations, but these ones are easy…
LOL – laugh out loud
BTW – by the way
IMHO – in my humble opinion
OTOH – on the other hand
And here's another one:
LMAO – laugh my a** off
and it's variant LMFAO – laugh my f***ing a** off
I do admit to being puzzled when someone posted ROFL the other day.
OfflineKaren: Rolling On Floor Laughing (oops, Ashraf beat me to it)
IMO- In My Opinion (when you're not humble I guess)
YMMV- Your Milage May Vary
Here's one long, long list I found: http://www.webopedia.com/quick…..ations.asp
Looking at that list made me think it would be nice if a balloon could come up with the meaning. Whether or not that can actually be done is beyond me tho.
OfflineBefore I turn in, had to add a few more:
BING – But it's not Google
VISTA – Vastly Inferior Software To Apple
PITA – Pain in the A**
NASCAR – Non-Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks
ARMY – Ain't a Real Marine Yet
IBM – I Blame Microsoft
STAR WARS – Space, Time, And Relativity, With A Ridiculous Script.
BRA – Bosom Regulating Accessory
MBA – Mediocre But Arrogant
FORD – Fix or Repair Daily
DHL – Delivery Halfway Lost
OTNIAOTB (On that note, I am off to bed!)
I was saving it for Cogizio, but it probably wouldn't make such a great post anyway.

Are we talking about chat acronyms?
This a good site for chat and text acronyms and you can also do a search.
http://www.sharpened.net/glossary/acronyms.php
The site in the above post is great for finding unfamilar acronyms, used in business, military, science, etc. (I have bookmarked it). Good info.

I always thought (and use) the context was LOTS OF LOVE. (throwback to the "Swinging Sixties" Ha Ha)

Wow.
Way too big for what I had in mind. Still could be useful when lost for words.

It DEFINITELY doesn't mean that. I don't know anyone here that well.
Peace & Harmony Sister. LOL, in the Spiritual sense that is. And that's no laughing matter. Are we cool on this?
