WYSIWYG seems to be ok now - headboard gui & smilies are back. Ok I got it. Earlier everyone had to tweak their individual profile to get it, now you've tweaked so everyone automatically has it always. The penny dropped

WYSIWYG is "What You See Is What You Get". Basically, when you write a forum post here you are using a WYSIWYG editor - you don't have to use any code and can use the buttons to format your message. I want to have the same thing for comments.

Also, thanks for the editing time limit suggestion. I will keep it in mind.

Understood your post no.8 i.e. WYSIWYG is not edit post. I am still trying to figure out what then is WYSIWYG. Just reconfirming to you that nothing seems to have changed - no new WYSIWYG is there on my comp....yet

Yes, it worked. I used the "Edit Your Post" gui icon on my thread headboard. So it is for a 10 minute span eh?

Makes sense.

10 minutes (I'd suggest 5 though) is short enough to force a writer to responsibly & quickly self correct his bloopered post. I suggest because 5 minutes because it is kinder to those who reply to the post. Most dottechies are also "quick on grasping & reply". 10 mins might actually hurt if they replied to a blooper post & discovered subsequently that the blooper sender subsequently edited the blooper....................over 10 mins. Of course Ashraf would decide. This is only a suggestion.

Reduces needless pressure on moderators

Prevents server space from needlessly getting gobbled up due because hopefully it would throw up fewer bloopered posts as well

QED!

A simple winner of an idea all around

@Ramesh

The comment editing actually has nothing to do with the WYSIWYG editor - they are two different things. Also, I have limited the time allowed to edit comments. Now everyone can only edit for upto 10 minutes. Before, logged in users could edit indefinitely.

I'll check out the wysiwyg pronto by seeing if I can edit a post I wrote within the last 10 minutes.

However that said, in any case I prefer allowing "edit" only for a "limited time" rather than "indefinitely". It makes the dottech experience more enjoyable.

Almost 100% of dottech is about "reading a written word" or "writing words". It feels nicer to read if "whoever" who wrote thought through before writing what he wrote......... rather than getting careless or lax just because of being able to edit endlessly. A limited edt time makes for a "better blooper proofing level" than an "unlimited edit time".

Okay I just realized I had set the settings to allow logged in users to edit their comments indefinetly. Reflecting upon that, I have changed it to 10 minutes for logged in users also.
